Title: Knox/Waldo Rural Advocate
Job Status: Regular, Full Time (40hrs/ week); ($19/hr; Estimated Annual Salary $39,520 plus benefits) With 3% COLA beginning Oct 1, 2024, increasing hourly rate to $19.57/hr and Estimated Annual Salary to $40,705.60 plus benefits.
Office Location: SASSMM Searsport Office, with remote work from home, as possible.
Primary Responsibility: To provide school based and community-based education and direct assistance and support to victims/survivors of sexual violence in Knox and Waldo Counties, with possible back up response to serve Eastern Cumberland (Brunswick, Harpswell, and surrounding Islands) Sagadahoc and Lincoln Counties, as needed.
Representative Duties:
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of curricula and materials used in SASSMM’s education programming
- Implement educational programs and trainings in Knox/Waldo schools (with students, faculty, administrators, and relevant school department staff).
- Develop trainings and materials for community education programs with broader community partners and underserved populations (older adult providers, childcare providers, LGBTQIA, faith communities etc.), in Knox/Waldo Counties, as needed.
- Facilitate student or community support groups or client drop-in hours in SASSMM affiliated schools/community settings, as needed
- Work as part of a collaborative Education Team; meeting regularly to plan your work and strategize best practices in prevention education throughout the Midcoast
- Establish contact and collaborate with other community resource and referral sources
- Attend identified meetings and initiatives that are relevant to the mission of the agency
- Distribute evaluative and assessment instruments in collaboration with project participants
- Maintain and input all statistical data required by funding and agency requirements
Systems Programming & Delivery
- Provide client accompaniments and support in Knox and Waldo County Courthouses and at local police departments, during police interviews or other procedures involving law enforcement, legal proceedings, forensic medical exams, restorative circles, etc.
- Knox/ Waldo non-emergency police accompaniments will first go to the Rural Services Coordinator, then delegated to the Rural Advocate or whomever is on SBU secondarily.
- Respond to needs for in-person client support at Rockland Court, and at Belfast Court, as available.
- Make cold calls to court clients / potential PTLA referrals on behalf of clients
- Contribute to SASSMM’s rural services programming, funded under the OVW Rural Grant, including the collection and sharing of data and best practices for scheduled reports and attendance on Rural Services peer calls.
- Attend at least 12 hours of professional development training per year, in consultation with the Rural Services Coordinator.
- Participate (bi-weekly) in one-on-one supervision with the Rural Services Coordinator to develop a workplan, ensure self-management and compliance with policies and data collection requirements, and to share feedback and accountability regarding ongoing projects.
- Participate in Systems Team Meetings, as scheduled
Client Services
- Complete SASSMM 47+ hours Advocate Training
- Participate in staff back-up coverage of the 1-800 helpline
- Respond to all client needs associated with staff back-up capacity
- Support all client needs as identified via the helpline, the SASSMM office phone, affiliated schools, or other community partners
- Establish contact and collaborate with other community resource and referral sources
- Facilitate student or community support groups or client drop-in hours in SASSMM affiliated schools/community settings, as needed
- Co-facilitate support to outreach groups, as needed
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
- At least two-years of experience working with youth in an educational setting or equivalent related experience
- Experience developing educational curriculum and training materials
- Excellent project management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience with classroom management, facilitation, or team-building preferred
- Excellent computer literacy and organizational skills
- Ability to work remotely and independently
- Training or experience working with diverse and underserved populations
- Awareness of, and sensitivity to, issues of sexual violence
- Ability to respond to people in crisis and an open-minded nature
Accountability: Accountable to the Rural Services Coordinator for any rural services related services or programming. Accountable to the Executive Director regarding all agency programming and operations.
