This position is a Fixed Term Contract for 12 months.

 

As an Independent Living Officer, you will be expected to:

 

  • Working in the Independent Living Team means working in a service that cares about making a positive difference to peoples’ lives. Our main aim is to help customers live independently and sustain their tenancy.
  • The ideal candidate should have experience of working with vulnerable people with an understanding of the challenges they face in their lives.
  • We are looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills, who can manage their own workload and adapt to a changing environment.
  • To be responsible for managing the Independent Living Service in a designated area by delivering intensive housing management, which encompasses the five key outcomes identified on the housing action plan.
  • Commit to equality and diversity and to promote non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of work undertaken.
  • Adhere with the Health and Safety at Work Act to take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions.

 

 

To be successful in a Independent Living Officer role, the skills you will need:  

  • Educated to GCSE standard of equivalent.
  • Educated to CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Practice or willingness to

study this qualification.

  • Understanding of issues faced in a social housing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to manage own workload without direct

supervision.

  • Ability to work in and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload in order to meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience of working with, and thorough understanding of

dealing with vulnerable group.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of social housing.
  • Commitment to customer care.
  • Willingness to seek responsibility.
  • Full driving licence and use of a car for work.
  • Prepared to attend evening meetings.
  • Ability to work remotely and flexibly where appropriate.
  • Good standard of ICT literacy and the confidence to use Microsoft Outlook,

Word and Excel on a daily basis.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate across multiple channels including Microsoft Teams, Face to Face and Email.

 

(Experience or Knowledge of the below would be advantageous but not essential:

  • Experience of liaising with social, medical and care agencies.
  • Previous experience of housing management.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation.
