Full-Time Deputy Director, Corporate Relations, Office of External Relations – Development

Job Description

The Atlantic Council seeks a talented, dynamic, and entrepreneurial professional to join the Development team to support the corporate engagement efforts that raise unrestricted revenue for the organization.

 

The Deputy Director will assist with the execution of the fundraising strategy by supporting the Director of Corporate Partnerships with effective communication to current donors and new prospects. This position will work closely with the Atlantic Council’s sixteen programs and centers to ensure appropriate stewardship and retention of current corporate donors, as well as support in identifying, cultivating, and securing new donors to support their lines of work.

 

The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fluid team environment on deadlines. Experience in fundraising is critical for success in this role. Candidate must have excellent administrative and communication skills, superior writing abilities, attention to detail and knowledge of diplomatic protocol rules. The ideal candidate will have an interest in international affairs and foreign policy.

 

This role is based in our Washington, DC headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $120,000.

Job Responsibilities

  • The Deputy Director (DD) is a key partner with the Director of Corporate Partnerships (DCP) and the broader Development team in meeting the program’s fundraising goals, with attention to corporate partners.
  • Manage a portfolio of assigned corporate partners. Lead and manage all development, growth, stewardship, support, and renewal activities related to assigned key partnerships, meeting or exceeding established annual goals.
  • Manage and oversee gift agreement creation, execution, fulfillment and associated logistical support for assigned partnerships, ensuring that all terms and conditions are clearly defined, understood, and approved prior to execution and/or renewal.
  • Assist with overall Development efforts by providing research and analysis on current and prospective partners, drafting relevant correspondence, and keeping internal fundraising records up to date.
  • In coordination with DCP, develop and maintain proposals that are high-quality, accurate, responsive to the Atlantic Council’s research priorities and donor guidelines, approved for submission, in compliance with the Council’s policies, and submitted to prospective donors in advance of deadlines.
  • Create annual stewardship plans for current, lapsed, and prospective corporate partners, reflecting their giving data, areas of interest, and points of entry to the organization.
  • Maintain complete records on the assigned relationship, results, and campaign activities using Salesforce.
  • Work closely with Development Operations to invoice donors, track pledges and payments, manage collections and reconcile revenue on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Work closely with prospect researcher to conduct research to ensure a steady flow of new potential partners for the Atlantic Council’s pipeline.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in nonprofit Development, sales and marketing or related experience; international fundraising and/or special events experience preferred.
  • Self-starter and results-oriented individual who can meet tight deadlines and work in fluid, dynamic, and evolving environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to negotiate, interpret and fulfill terms of a partnership agreement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, flexibility, professionalism, and discretion.
  • An understanding of corporate government affairs offices in Washington, DC, and both domestic and international corporate leaders; interest in international affairs and a commitment to the mission and goals of the Atlantic Council.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT) required; experience with Salesforce preferred or other CRM preferred.
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign and/or Acrobat to edit documents preferred.
