Full-Time Library/Archive Supervisor

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Karrmann Library at UW Platteville invites applications for a Library/Archive Supervisor. The Library/Archive Supervisor provides reference, information, referral and library instruction classes to students, faculty, and staff, in addition to, supervising the Circulation Manager and Interlibrary Loan assistant. This position participates in community outreach, government documents, collection development and campus governance for the Karrmann Library.

This position also coordinates the operations of a unit or service and dedicates most of the time to supervision of unit staff to provide essential operational services in the unit’s area of specialization. This position coordinates input on policies and procedures, typically through committee work, to contribute to services and operations and assists in continual service improvement and innovation.

This is a full time, benefit, and paid leave position. Wage for this position is $50,000-$55,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees day-to-day operational services in the Karrmann Library
  • Determines appropriate staffing levels and schedules employees to maintain quality service
  • Sets quality standards and competencies and trains employees on changes. Assesses and adjusts as needed
  • Improves processes, procedures, or services
  • Resolves complex issues which may impact policies and procedures within area of specialization
  • Advances librarianship or archives at the campus, local, and state level through committee participation
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Required: 

  • Master of Library Sciences (MLS)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred: 

  • 2-5 years’ experience in an academic library setting
  • Familiarity with ALMA catalog and discovery tool and ILLiad interlibrary loan system software
