SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking a qualified individual to teach in the Computing and Software Development Associates Degree program. Areas of instruction include general software development methodologies, web and mobile app development, database query design, and algorithmic problem solving. Successful candidates will: demonstrate experience in fostering student achievement of discipline-specific, college-wide, and degree learning outcomes; assess and modify curriculum as needed to meet the changing needs of industry; teach classes in a variety of timeframes and delivery formats; work with other faculty and administrators to plan, implement, and update program and program materials; take part in college activities, student advising, mentoring part-time faculty and scheduling. This position reports to the program dean. This is a full-time, Annual Renewable position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Develop and teach a variety of instructional objectives and experiences appropriate to programming for web, mobile and gaming development, database administration, storage, security, and infrastructure requirements
• Facilitate student learning through traditional activities and various alternative teaching/learning methods
• Develop and maintain industry and community support for the CSD program by actively engaging with industry, including advisory committee member, adjunct faculty and guest speaker recruitment; and student job placement activities
• Maintain comprehensive, current knowledge of the local, national, and global software development industry, especially developments in Puget Sound
• Pursue appropriate professional development activities to stay current in assigned teaching field
• Advise students on educational and career planning
• Identify course and program learning outcomes in collaboration with other faculty teaching at the associates level
• Develop and teach curriculum which supports the college’s global outcomes, cultural diversity and non-discrimination; model the communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills necessary for employment in the IT field
• Actively participate as team member in program management and campus initiatives Develop and assess program, curriculum, and educational outcomes
• Develop classroom and lab procedures, including safety, consistent with identified local, state, and federal policies and procedures; share responsibility for educational facilities and equipment
• Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, evaluate student progress, maintain appropriate records, and provide clear, timely feedback; deal consistently and fairly with all students
• Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed in college policy and deal consistently and fairly with all students
• Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college grading requirements
• Be familiar with and advance the college’s mission, vision, and goals and how they relate to academic and technical programs
• Maintain regular office hours
• Take part in college accreditation, program review, and college committees as specified in the faculty bargained agreement
• Perform other professional activities as approved by the dean
• Serves as Faculty Director for CSD baccalaureate programs
QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in information technology or related field required; earned doctorate preferred
• Four years’ successful full-time industry experience
• Evidence of ability to teach theory and practice, including modern software development practices such as agile developing, using a variety of teaching techniques
• Expert knowledge of at least two programming/scripting languages such as C++, Java, C#, JavaScript, Python
• Knowledge of web development frameworks.
• Knowledge of the software development cycle as applied to scalable software products including web, mobile and game development technologies.
• Hold or be eligible to obtain a state professional-technical certificate to teach in the subject area
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds, including native languages, and a commitment to a culturally diverse work environment
• Recent college teaching experience using a variety of modes, including classroom, online and blended environments; experience with learning management systems preferred Excellent communication skills and ability to function as an effective team member in a collaborative environment
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation & Work Schedule Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. This positions ranges from $67,978-$80,024 per year; salary is for an academic year (173 days) and as may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Summer quarter employment may be available based on student enrollment.
