Full-Time Education Advocate

Job Description

Title: Education Advocate – Eastern Cumberland (Brunswick/Harpswell)/Sagadahoc Counties 

Job Status: Regular, Full Time (40hrs/week) ($19/hr; Annual Salary $39,520 plus benefits) 

Office Location: SASSMM Brunswick Office, with remote work as approved 

Primary Responsibility: To provide community education and K-12 school-based education, and direct assistance and support to victims of sexual violence in Eastern Cumberland (Brunswick, Harpswell, and surrounding Islands) and Sagadahoc Counties, with possible back up response to serve Lincoln, Knox, and Waldo Counties, as needed. 

Representative Duties: 

Prevention Education 

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of curricula and materials used in SASSMM’s education programming 
  • Implement educational programs and trainings in K-12 schools (with students, faculty, administrators, and relevant school department staff). 
  • Develop trainings and materials for community education programs with broader community partners and underserved populations (older adult providers, childcare providers, LGBTQIA, faith communities etc.), in Eastern Cumberland, Sagadahoc, and Lincoln Counties 
  • Facilitate student or community support groups or client drop-in hours in SASSMM affiliated schools/community settings, as needed 
  • Work as part of a collaborative Education Team; meeting regularly to plan your work and strategize best practices in prevention education throughout the Midcoast  
  • Establish contact and collaborate with other community resource and referral sources 
  • Respond to incoming requests for education programs or related inquiries.   
  • Attend identified meetings and initiatives that are relevant to the mission of the agency 
  • Distribute evaluative and assessment instruments in collaboration with project participants 
  • Maintain and input all statistical data required by funding and agency requirements 
  • Attend at least 12 hours of professional development training per year, in consultation with the Education Coordinator.  
  • Participate (bi-weekly) in one-on-one supervision with the Education Coordinator to develop a workplan, ensure self-management and compliance with policies and data collection requirements, and to share feedback and accountability regarding ongoing projects. 
  • Participate in Education Team Meetings 

Client Services 

  • Complete SASSMM 47+ hours Advocate Training  
  • Participate in staff back-up coverage of the 1-800 helpline and respond to all client or volunteer advocate needs associated with staff back-up capacity  
  • Participate in HelpRoom staffing 
  • Respond to all client needs associated with staff back-up capacity  
  • Support all client needs as identified via the support line, the SASSMM office phone, affiliated schools, or other community partners  
  • Co-facilitate in-person or online support groups, as needed   
  • Perform other duties, as assigned 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work/life experience  
  • At least two-years of experience working with youth in an educational setting or equivalent related experience, preferred 
  • Experience developing educational curriculum and training materials 
  • Excellent project management skills  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience with classroom management, facilitation, or team-building preferred 
  • Excellent computer literacy and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work remotely and independently  
  • Training or experience working with diverse and underserved populations 
  • Awareness of, and sensitivity to, issues of sexual violence 
  • Ability to respond to people in crisis and an open-minded nature 

Accountability: Accountable to the Education Coordinator for all education and prevention programming and to the Client Services & Outreach Coordinator for any client related support. Accountable to the Executive Director regarding all agency programming and operations.
