SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 10 applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees, and 80 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. LWTech is located within the city of Kirkland, which is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and EvergreenHealth, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo. JOB SUMMARY
This adjunct professor will teach a more advanced course, in the two-year Mechanical Design Technology degree program (AAS-T). This course covers the application of advanced engineering skills to create complex digital models and detail drawings of parts from engineering sketches with emphasis on ASME, DOD and ISO standards. This course focusses on applying SolidWorks to various methods of part manufacturing.
The Mechanical Design Technology program prepares students for roles as mechanical drafters, designers, and technicians in mechanical engineering companies including aerospace, transportation, medical, product design, and industrial manufacturing.
In order to strengthen the program and to successfully prepare students for successful roles in industry, it is vital that this adjunct professor proactively works collaboratively with everyone in the Mechanical Design Technology program. Opportunities may arise to work with professors in other programs as well. This position supports the lead faculty for Mechanical Design Technology.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Excellent classroom management skills, working with students. Positive and motivating.
• Excellent at working in a cooperative and collaborative way with fellow faculty members.
• Proficient in advanced applications of SolidWorks for mechanical engineering fabrication, including but not limited to machining, casting and sheet metal.
• Proficient in dimensioning and tolerancing per industry standards (ASME Y14.5-2009).
• Able to share on the job experiences
• Able to lead students through understanding the design process.
• Able to teach Technical Problem Solving and learning from Failure.
• Able to lead students through understanding basic design principles that determine the form fit and function of designs.
• Experienced with using rapid prototyping equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters preferred.
• Understanding of machining processes and equipment (such as lathe, mill etc.) preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High School diploma, bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
• 2 years related work experience
• College teaching experience preferred
• Industry certifications preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation
Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.
Step A ranges from $675.36 – $2.026.08
Step B ranges from $710.74 – $2,132.22
Step C ranges from $775.27 – $2,175.93
Step D ranges from $795.04 – $2,385.12
Step E ranges from $795.04 – $2,385.12

Once part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters(with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
