Full-Time Sr, Network Engineer (Req#1967)

Job Description

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for implementing and supporting the corporate technical strategy and development plans, as well as leading the operational development and integration of key technologies within the technology division enterprise network infrastructure.  This includes local and SD WAN networks, wireless, standards-based enterprise network management tools, and all other current and emerging communications technologies.  In addition, this position will also be responsible for senior level operations escalations and on call engineering support for EB’s production networks and services.  This position will be tasked to drive the development and maintenance of the company’s network product and service roadmaps, participate in new technology assessments and selection, and mentor the development of junior technical support staff.

Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with network architects and Security Engineering to design and implement functional company networks using latest advance services such as ACI and SD-WAN. Project /team meetings as needed.
  • Install and configure core critical data center networking hardware. Following upgrade schedules as needed. Design specific new products/services for enterprise. Submit for design review by Architecture. Function as lead engineer for various projects.
  • Monthly and/or quarterly maintenance of network security SLA’s for all enterprise-wide network assets.
  • Maintain and update network documentation as required based on audit findings and/or new implementation support
  • Resolve escalated network support issues and follow up with ongoing network status reports.
  • This role will perform other tasks and/or responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a technical related discipline or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 5+ plus years direct routing and switching experience; in positions of increasing responsibility around network infrastructure design, infrastructure support, encompassing Ethernet WAN/ LAN /WAN and Layer 3 Switching protocol and infrastructure solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future business needs while assessing new technologies and determining in which ways new technologies can be leveraged by the IT staff.
  • Analytical skills required to make recommendations and/or implement enhancements to existing infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to document: IT policies and procedures, network diagrams, small to complex project outlines and tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience/effectiveness managing complex projects.
  • Current CCNP preferred.
  • Experienced with the following networking routing and switching systems preferred, ACI, Nexus core Cisco switches, Cisco Routers, Cisco Nexus platforms, Meraki wireless, ISE, SolarWinds, Visio
  • Familiar with telecoms DIA, MPLS, T1, T3, SD-WAN.
  • Routing protocols (RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP
  • Layer2 Perimeter and Internet firewalls
  • General understanding of basic computer terminology and a strong passion to learn
  • MS proficient in Teams, One-Drive, Confluence, Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to work with technical and business staff, as well as 3rd party vendors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Working knowledge of the OSI model preferred
  • Aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Self-motivated, able to follow instructions, and work with limited supervision
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to participate in formal training programs

Work Environment

  • An ideal candidate should have basic computer diagnostic skills, be hard working, reliable, flexible, willingness to learn and be a team player, but still be able to work independently.
  • On-Call Weekend on-site physical support is required when called upon for Core Production Change Controls which are typically performed on Saturday or Sunday Mornings (6:00 AM – 10:00 AM).
  • Must be flexible to Work outside the Office/Data Center Workplace and able to minimally working 2-3 days per week within assigned Eastern Bank Network Engineering office location and may include travel to other sites required when necessary, including within Massachusetts and/or other out of state US based Data Centers.
