Full-Time Biology Laboratory Coordinator

Job Description

SALARY:                                  $31,290-$45,371

LOCATION:                               Niceville and Fort Walton Beach Campuses

FLSA STATUS:                           Non-Exempt

Duties and Responsibilities                                                                                                            

  • Prepare biology and microbiology laboratories.
  • Set-up, clean, and maintain all chemicals, instruments, and equipment for all biology and microbiology laboratories.
  • Coordinate disposal of biological waste.
  • Sterilize and clean glassware.
  • Coordinate inventory of stock room and storage rooms.
  • Maintain Safety and Data Sheet (SDS) files for all chemicals in stock.
  • Manage ordering of laboratory equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain biohazard waste records for State of Florida.
  • As a part of the college’s risk management tool, annual mandatory compliance training is required.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Position requires daily travel between the Niceville and Fort Walton Beach campuses.

Minimum Qualifications                                                                                                                 

  • Minimum of B.S. in biology, microbiology or related discipline.
  • Experience with growing and maintaining bacterial cultures and lab specimens.
  • Must be able to work with formalin-preserved specimens.
  • Ability to manage multiple duties.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Employment contingent on passing background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications                                                                                                                

  • Familiarity with OSHA standards for laboratory and EPA standards for waste disposal preferred.
  • Proficient with database management preferred.
