Full-Time Technical Director
Job Description
As a Technical Director at Central Oregon Daily, you will be responsible for executing a wide range of video production tasks that include directing live studio newscasts, operating robotic cameras for live newscasts, preparing video segments for newscasts, capture news stories as assigned by News Director, operating HD video cameras, field equipment, Technical director for other news as needed. You will ensure that the graphics/video/audio in newscasts result in high quality broadcasts and meet specifications set forth by the management.
The pay range listed for this position represents the low and high end of the base compensation range. The actual offer amount will carefully consider multiple factors, such as relevant skills, qualifications, work experience, location and/or competencies that align with the specified role. Certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses and equity awards.

- Director for the late evening newscasts (6 & 11pm).
- Serve as back up for other directors as needed.
- Operate control consoles for sound, lighting, or video. You will also operate live studio video switcher for newscasts.
- Monitor broadcasting operations to ensure proper functioning.
- Regulate the fidelity, brightness, and contrast of video transmissions, using video console control panels.
- Select sources from which programming will be received or through which programming will be transmitted.
- Monitor strength, clarity, and reliability of incoming and outgoing signals and adjust equipment as necessary to maintain quality broadcasts.
- Observe monitors and converse with station personnel to determine audio and video levels and to ascertain that programs are airing.
- Control camera equipment to regulate the proper framing and video quality during television broadcasts.
- Capture daily news stories as assigned by Assignment Editor or News Director, operating HD video cameras, audiot, lightling, and other field equipment.
- Preparing video segments/graphics for newscasts.
- Maintain Studio Operations – All essential gear is clean and in proper working order.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and insurance.
Other Qualifications
- Run live studio graphics and video during newscasts.
- Run live audio mixer during newscasts.
- Experience running an HD camera, including set-up and tear-down.
- Advanced knowledge of field and studio lighting techniques.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working with and meeting tight deadlines.
- Comfortable with an on-call, part-time schedule in order to capture the live events needed for programming.
- Familiar with broadcast software: Adobe Premier, Ross Video Production Switchers, Ross Inception, Ross Xpression or iNews a plus.
