The Role
the greater is looking for a catalyst for change who wants to join our growing team in the role of Strategy Director
We believe that the best strategies are done with people, not at people. This means you’ll be counted on to provide smart strategic counsel and guide collaborative projects that get the best out of everyone in the room.
You’ll be a key player within our growing entrepreneurial start up. You’ll take a lead role in key projects with our clients to help develop strategic counsel and provide recommendations. Our Directors work directly with clients and manage project deliverables, so you will also stretch your account management muscles, as well as support co-founders and collaborating with colleagues on the projects they chair. Finally, as an empowered member of our team, you’ll help shape the evolution of our organization through your contributions to our operations, communications, impact strategy, and thought leadership.

- Workshop Design and Facilitation
There’s no one right way to do strategy so instead of listing down skills and attributes that run the gamut on the expected qualifications, we’d rather use this time to give you a range of contexts and situations where we think you must shine to be successful in this role:
- Ambiguity: so much of what we’re helping our clients to do has never been done before. There’s no road map so we need to be agile and innovative in real-time. If you like a blank page to work from, can help to see the path where others cannot, and are ready to make brave recommendations, this might be a role for you.
- High Performance Team: we’re a small but mighty team and we all do things that are inside and outside our role to help drive the work forward. If you regularly put up your hand and bring forth new ideas and ways of working (even when those conflict with the norm) then you’ll fit right in with us.
- Clients as Partners: we work best when we’re actively engaged with our clients as thought partners. A great collaboration session with sticky notes (or virtual whiteboards) gets us going and leads to great outcomes. There are minimal “big reveal” presentation moments here. We love to impress and delight with new thinking but first and foremost we believe in the power of teams. This means you’ll get direct engagement with clients to riff off one another regularly. From ESGs to ChatGPT, we need somebody who is naturally curious on trends inside and outside of social impact. Seeing opportunity in the collision of many interconnected concepts and craving continuous learning will help you thrive with us.
- Storytellers: Our product is our people, and our people must excel in communications. We need to bring clarity to everything we do and communicate complex ideas with simplicity. We’re seeking is clear, decisive, and easy to comprehend recommendations.

- Starting salary of $120,000 per annum: this is the allocated salary for the right candidate for this role, regardless of your experience or qualifications.

Our ideal start date for this role is last half of June 2023
the greater operates out of the Centre for Social Innovation Annex Location (720 Bathurst Street, Toronto, Canada).
We are a hybrid environment with regular in-office days of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely from home two days per week on Mondays and Fridays.
We offer additional flexibility including extended long weekends, remote work opportunities, as well as an office soft closure during December. More details will be provided to candidates during the interview process.

Following the initial review of anonymized applications, the greater will determine a list of candidates to offer the opportunity for a first-round interview. At this time the greater will match anonymized applications to candidates and will reach out to extend this offer. The first-round will be a 30-minute phone call. From there, shortlisted candidates will be invited to a full-length interview, approximately, one hour. These second interviews will include compensation which will be shared with candidates at such time.
An additional task (such as outlining an approach to strategy development) and/or interview may be included if deemed necessary to support hiring decision making.
The selection committee will reach out for reference checks for the candidate they intend to extend an offer to. Finally, the successful candidate will receive an Employment Agreement, which they will have time to review and return. We anticipate this process to take approximately 8-10 weeks from the posting of the job ad to tendering an employment offer.
