Primary Purpose:
To direct, through subordinate supervisors, the operation and control of the electric transmission system and the bulk power control center in a safe and reliable manner and in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs approximately 30 employees through five Operations Shift Supervisors and two Team Leads. Directly supervises a clerical employee. Direct through these subordinates: The operation and control of the electric transmission system and substations from the bulk power control center, and through field switching activities, in a safe and reliable manner, and in the most economical manner which is consistent with maintaining security and reliability at or above established minimum criteria. The continuous monitoring of electric system loads, resources (both transmission and generation), and operating reserves; the controlling of system voltages and reactive power resources; and the control and authorizing of the shutdown and energizing of electric system facilities. Maintain power system security and reliability at or above minimum levels established by the Company, NERC, WSCC and contractual commitments. The conduct of emergency switching operations involving the shifting of loads, shutdown of facilities, and deploying of field crews for restoration of service.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable reliability standards and regulations and maintain documentation needed to establish compliance.
  • The participation in engineering studies and procedural reviews pertaining to Grid Control activities. The monitoring and updating of electric system operating diagrams and dispatching boards. Keep informed of and evaluate technical developments, regulatory agency requirements, and safety regulations pertaining to electric system operations.
  • The participation in hiring and promoting subordinate employees; the training of subordinates; the assignment, direction, and review of their work; and the compliance with Company affirmative action programs to achieve equal employment opportunity objectives.
  • Inform management, regulatory agencies, and other utilities regarding the status of electric operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in electrical engineering or equivalent directly relevant experience and training.
  • 7 years – Progressive related experience.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of electrical theory and electric utility operations normally acquired through college level courses and/or an equivalent education, training and experience.
  • Uses a high degree of initiative, judgment, and technical ability in directing electric energy control activities to ensure continuity of service, compliance with contractual requirements, and system reliability, integrity, and economy.
  • Must have the ability to achieve situational awareness and manage system contingencies/emergencies.
  • Must possess the ability to adapt and multi-task in a rapidly changing environment and be able to perform effectively under emergency and high-pressure situations.
  • Requires effective leadership abilities and the skill to organize a diverse team (operators, engineers, field personnel) under high stress situations in order to resolve emergency events.
  • Must make critical operating decisions during system emergencies.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and a clear leadership presence.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical drawings and documentation.
  • Requires computer skills typically found in control center and technical office application environments.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office two to three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in power system operations, power plant operations, substation operations, generation and transmission operations.
  • Registration as a professional engineer in the State of California.

Work Schedule
HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 2-3 days per week.
Salary Range
$121,400.00 – $182,100.00
