SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a temporary position that works directly with the auto repair instructor to provide general support to the program. Also acts as a support to other programs within the school of transportation, as needed. This position typically works only on the days class is in session, and reports directly to the course instructor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintains and repairs shop equipment

• Handles the ordering of equipment, tools, auto parts, & supplies and maintains the purchasing records of each

• Estimates customer vehicle repairs

• Helps keep the shop clean, well-stocked, and organized

• Picks up donations of parts and paint products

• Assists in coordinating marketing events

• Assists the instructor with computer editing and maintenance of program web site, curriculum, and budget spreadsheets

• Attends and acts as the recorder for advisory committee meetings

• Coordinates vehicle donations, maintains current training vehicle records, and helps coordinate the destruction of old training vehicles

• Monitors students and demonstrates by example, correct safety, sanitation and/or hazardous waste disposal practices, as appropriate to the particular shop environment

• Updates Safety Data Sheet (SDS) binder, as needed

• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED with two years minimum experience in a related field or attended the occupational program.

• Proficient in understanding, interpreting, and explaining the vocabulary/nomenclature specific to the auto body industry and in performing the specific occupational skills taught in the curriculum;

• Ability to work independently and with staff, students, customers, and vendors as an effective team member;

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students & customers from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages, and ability levels;

• Possess a current First Aid/CPR card or willingness to obtain same within 30 days of employment;

• Washington State Driver’s license; ability to drive with a trailer, forklift license a plus

• Willingness to learn new skills in technical areas, pedagogy, and in IT tools and applications as required by program evolution;

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Compensation & Work ScheduleThis is a temporary position. As defined by the current classified bargained agreement, newly hired employees shall be placed at Salary Level 70 Sub/On-Call Only $19.14 of the salary schedule in Appendix A of the Classified Union Bargaining Agreement. (Per current bargained agreement, Instructional Support Technicians are scheduled to work when classes are in session. As a result, actual salary may fluctuate depending on number of days worked). Salary placement for current classified employees is per the classified bargained agreement. This position works 40 hours per week. Working hours may vary but are typically between the hours of 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday; schedule to be determined by the supervisor.
