Full-Time Manager, Climate questionnaire

Purpose and Background

Are you passionate about tackling climate change? Would you like to be at the heart of driving action through environmental disclosure?

As one of our Technical Managers for the Climate Questionnaire you will have the subject matter expertise to support the continuous improvement and maintenance of CDP’s corporate climate-related questions and reporting guidance materials, and to support their delivery into our annual disclosure system. This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in the field of corporate environmental risk, impacts and reporting, and with experience in corporate sustainability performance measures.

About the Questionnaire & Guidance Team

The Questionnaire & Guidance team is responsible for developing and delivering CDP’s corporate questionnaires and reporting guidance materials so that CDP is able to collect high quality, relevant data that will drive change throughout the global economy.

This team is part of the Environmental Impact Department responsible for evolving CDP’s thought leadership and disclosure framework.

Key responsibilities include to:

  • Update and develop the CDP climate change questions and guidance materials by:
    • Working closely with the Climate team, Questionnaire & Scoring Evolution and other teams to identify and explore priorities for future questionnaire development
    • Carrying out research and analysis of questionnaire response data
  • Ensure that the questions and guidance materials are delivered into the CDP disclosure platform efficiently and accurately.
  • Oversee junior team members, and support tasks related to other themes such as forests, water security and biodiversity.
  • Respond to queries about the information that organisations are requested to report in the CDP questionnaires.
  • Deliver training webinars and provide subject matter expertise on climate-related issues.
  • Contribute to projects related to the development of other CDP outputs (e.g. funded projects, publications, and engagement events), build and maintain external relationships (e.g. with advisory panels, reporting standards etc), and represent CDP externally as a subject matter expert as required.

The precise description and nature of your job may vary from time to time, and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet operational needs.

Required skills and experience:

  • At least three years of experience (professional or academic) in a climate change-related role.
  • Knowledge of the global policy context for climate action, greenhouse gas accounting standards, and initiatives in the corporate sustainability reporting area (e.g. SBTi, ISSB, ESRS, TCFD).
  • A relevant academic qualification (postgraduate level preferable), ideally in environmental science or management, and preferably specialising in climate change and relating to sustainable business systems.
  • Experience managing a small team, and a confident and collaborative working style.
  • At least three years of demonstrable experience managing operational processes, or projects.
  • Previous experience of researching and producing written outputs for a business audience.
  • Demonstrably strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize and interpret qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Strong MS Excel skills.

Desired skills and experience

  • Knowledge of corporate GHG accounting, and/or sector-specific reporting frameworks and standards.
  • Advanced-level MS Excel data analysis skills.
  • Experience working with IT systems (e.g. CMS, data platforms, conditional logic statements).
  • Familiarity with CDP’s disclosure framework and systems.

Role details

This is a full-time, permanent role working for one of the most successful and fastest-growing initiatives driving action on sustainability. Based at CDP’s London office, the role offers flexible and remote working options. It will start ideally April 2023 and report to the Associate Director, Questionnaire & Guidance.

Salary and benefits: £37,700 – £44,000 with annual discretionary bonus (depending on organisation performance), 30 days’ holiday, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others. There is a 6-month probationary period.
