Job Description

Portfolio Manager, ECI

www.primecoalition.org

About Early Climate Infrastructure

The Early Climate Infrastructure (ECI) program at Prime seeks to unlock barriers to scale climate solutions faster, galvanizing the global elimination of greenhouse gas emissions. ECI will do this by investing catalytic capital into climate solution commercialization projects that are promising but cannot or will not receive traditional financing, and by curating, funding, and actively managing specific grant-funded systems innovation work in support of scaling those solutions. “Early Climate Infrastructure” is initially defined as solutions for mitigating climate change that are ready for initial commercialization activity, or that are fully commercial but need additional support to move to massive scale. The ECI program and team is currently in early startup mode, and seeks an impact-passionate, climate-knowledgeable individual to help define and execute the set of interventions ECI will make.

About the Job

The Portfolio Manager will be instrumental in building the ECI portfolio from the ground up. The Portfolio Manager will support ECI’s Director and Senior Lead through an 18-month period of exploring the boundaries of what is possible through pilot interventions and recommending design features of a larger-scale program based on lessons learned.

The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for research and diligence associated with potential ECI investments and systems innovation work. This will include both designing and managing a collaborative research effort on high-priority climate solution areas, and evaluating investment and project opportunities that come to ECI from outside sources. As ECI transitions from portfolio construction to execution, responsibilities will include ownership of executing one or more ECI project elements.

Prime embraces the differences between people of varied races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, and sexual orientations. We also acknowledge the value that different life experiences bring to our organization as a workplace, and to our ability to understand and advance our mission. Prime is an equal opportunity employer, and we encourage all applicants who share our values to apply.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to [NOTE: The portfolio manager will not be expected to do all of these things all at once – the intent is that the work of ECI will move from construction to execution, to evaluation]:

  • With the Director of ECI and ECI Senior Lead, prioritizing and selecting 3+ pilot interventions
  • Working with Prime’s Impact team to identify programs/projects that have extraordinarily high impact potential for GHG reduction beyond the initial 3+ pilot interventions and assessing fit for potential Prime/ECI funding now or in the future

2. Supporting the Director of ECI and the Senior Lead, ECI Program in executing the ECI design phase portfolio

  • Identifying and executing de-risking, exploratory, analytic studies, or initial demonstrations that serve ECI’s broader goal of high-impact pathways to GHG reduction, and/or that will support the initial ECI pilot projects
  • With the Director of ECI and ECI Senior Lead, implementing the chosen pilot projects – including responsibilities around active project management

3. Supporting the Director of ECI and the Senior Lead, ECI Program in evaluating the ECI design phase project portfolio and constructing the permanent program
