This is a new position at The Art Garage

FLSA Status: Full-time Exempt

Mission: to offer arts-based programs that inspire, empower and promote creative self-expression by people of all ages and backgrounds. On-site and off-site studio workshops and exhibitions engage the greater Denver community to those who are under-served, at-risk and for people with disabilities to ensure the artistic process is fully accessible and inclusive for all.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The Director of Education provides leadership for The Art Garage’s art educational programs, managing rosters of teaching artists and three full time team members.  The Director of Education reports to the Executive Director and serves in senior management roles, collaborating in grant and funding development to ensure The Art Garage’s daily programming aligns with its mission. The Director of Education will work as an advocate and take initiative to support the organization’s DEIA advancement. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct and manage the development, implementation and evaluation of The Art Garage programs to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission. 
    • Supervise three full-time program staff, providing guidance, support and oversight for The Art Garage’s programs: school day out, after school classes, homeschool classes, day programming, birthday parties, summer camps, off-site programs and community engagement programs. 
      • Directly supervise three full-time staff: Community Liaison, Program Manager and Studio Assistant along with part-time teaching artists and studio assistants. 
      • Quarterly and annual reviews of employee performance
      • Consistent check-ins and communication with staff members
    • Gauge, monitor and continuously improve program quality via evaluation practices including working with outside vendors, analyzing data, conducting site observations and soliciting community, participant and staff feedback.
    • Develop and manage department budgets; monitor earned income targets and strategize with the Executive Director on program revenue development. 
      • Completing invoicing and accounts receivable for programming
      • Assess, update and implement program costs
    • Collaborating with the Executive Director to provide grant related support such as partnering on grant proposals, drafting grant reports and coordinating funder site visits. 
    • Develop, implement and support onsite and offsite programming that fulfills The Art Garage’s mission with The Art Garage Administrative Assistant and Community Liaison.

 

  • Cultivate relationships with current and potential partners; school districts, administrators, artists, teachers, staff and community partner organizations. 
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with school leaders and community educators. 
    • Represent The Art Garage at conference and community events
    • Stay current with local, state and national issues and trends in education and arts education. 
    • Lead, collaborate and adapt programming to ensure all programming is inclusive
    • Establish relationships with all teaching artists and staff, supplying resources and managing administration. 
    • Lead or collaborate with partners to provide professional development, developing a series of learning opportunities for teaching artists, staff that reflect current best practices in education. 
    • Lead artists and staff recruitment and selection process towards the community needs and the organizations DEIA goals, enduring multiple art forms and geographic diversity are represented. 
    • Onboard and training of new teachers, studio assistants and any new full-time employees where the Director of Education is the direct report. 

 

Qualifications and Desired Skills 

  • 5+ years of experience in education, arts education or educational programs.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive culture. 
  • Experience in developing educational programming (preferably in the arts) 
  • Experience managing staff and/or contractors
    • Experience coaching, support and communication with team members. 
  • Knowledge of Arts Integration, Social-Emotional Learning and Anti-Racism
  • Experience developing and managing a budget independently
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication
  • Experience in administrative tasks, creating new organization systems and develop new digital systems as needed
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to problem solve and deal with stressful situations calmly and effectively
  • Ability to work in small, collaborative environments with varied tasks day-to-day. 
  • Experience in Google Suite (gmail, google sheets, docs and drive), Slack and Zoom meeting management. 

 

Office hours: 40hrs/week in the Denver office.  Hours vary based on programming and organizational needs.  Availability for some evenings and weekends will be needed. 

Desired Start Date: March 2023

Compensation: 55,000-75,000/year
