Job Title: Information & Advice Officer

Salary:  £27,170 PA

Contract: Permanent

Base: Arrowe Park / Clatterbridge

Hours: 2 x Full-time (37.5 hours per week) posts available

The Brain Charity offers emotional support, practical help and social activities to anyone with a neurological condition and to their family, friends and carers.

There are hundreds of different neurological conditions including stroke, brain tumour, brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease and many rarer conditions.

We are really pleased to say that The Brain Charity is growing year on year. We are now looking to recruit an emotionally intelligent and resourceful individual with a strong background in a related area such as social care, welfare, health or housing, etc. to join this vital team.

Receiving practical help in important areas such as welfare benefits, legal advice and social care is a key part of The Brain Charity’s work and we are extremely proud to be able to offer this to individuals when they need it most.

As one of our Information and Advice Officers, you will work at the very heart of our services delivering this essential support to individuals who lives are often in crisis.

Main tasks:

Supporting individuals

  • Triage new enquires in good time referring on to internal and external services as and when required.
  • Offer emotional support face-to-face, over the telephone and via e-mail to individuals who may be in crisis.
  • Provide casework to individuals with neurological conditions.
  • Complete welfare benefit, housing and other related applications for support on behalf of individuals.
  • Send out written materials to individuals and support groups as and when requested.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly coffee mornings and meet and greet new service users.

Managing and maintaining resources

  • Manage a library catalogue system to ensure all materials are easy to locate.
  • Update and renew library stock taking account of the advances in medicine and changes that may be made to publications.

Data collection and record keeping

  • Maintain high quality records of all interactions with service users on the organisations data collection / case management system.
  • Ensure all confidentiality and data protection regulations are adhered to.

Relationship building with other key services and professionals

  • Attend relevant information & advice events and information.
  • Be a stallholder and give presentations internally and externally to promote services and provide information to services users.
  • Attend local, regional and national forums to support campaigning activity and the development of the service.

Other

  • Work to The Brain Charity’s policies and procedures.
  • Actively support promotional and fundraising events for The Brain Charity, attending a minimum of 1 fundraising or client-focussed event over the course of a year.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks which may be required by the charity from time to time.
  • Regularly provide cover for all aspects of the department you belong to during any absence relating to your colleagues.
