Full-Time Research Management Analyst

Job Description

The Research Management Analyst reports to the Chief Administrative Officer of the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and contributes to a broad range of research activity related to the college’s strategic research objectives. Primarily, this role oversees and administers publication journal activity and assists with management of center financial activity.

Essential Duties

Journal Administration
Assist journal editor(s) with administration and communication,

  • Monitor the journal submission and review process regarding the pipeline of manuscripts; provide continuous communication with Co-Editors in Chief and Managing Editor; alert editors about all new submissions; meet at least weekly with editors (virtual or in-person with advance notice).
  • Become familiar with and skilled at using Wiley’s Scholar One Manuscript submission system.

Research Financial Management Support
Assist Glenn College research center directors and operations managers with monitoring research personnel and project budgets to support analysis, reconciliation, and revising budgets on a regular basis,

  • Financial analysis and modeling – conduct modeling, forecasting, and reporting related to research center financial activity. Works with CAO, College Financial Analyst, center directors and operations managers to model in- and outflows, develop, implement, and reconcile budget projections, revenue enhancement scenarios, and business plans; conducts in-depth financial analysis of complex fiscal reports; reviews, confirms, and updates center data models as needed
  • Budget and financial management – conduct budget planning, analysis, and reporting related to research center financial activity. Allocates, monitors, and analyzes center budgets on research, gift, and other funds as applicable; manages multiple sources of funding, which may include sponsored research and federal restricted funds, grants, and contracts; reconciles and reports on financial actuals; works with principal investigators and center managers to identify concerns and constraints with budgetary projections and actuals, and to track and analyze allowable costs and budget latitude; assists the Chief Administrative Officer and College Financial Analyst with entering budget data into Workday or other University-approved financial planning systems; implements regular and periodic financial reconciliations, suggesting process modifications as needed; works closely with CAO and College Financial Analyst on financial stewardship, assisting with review and corrections of transactions in Workday as necessary.

 

 

Additional Information:

The targeted salary range is $53,800 to $71,700

 

Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Management or Policy, Business Administration, Data Analytics/Statistics, or related field, plus 2 years of relevant experience, is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and electronic file management are required. Evidence of excellent written communication skills and writing skills is required.

Desired Qualifications
A graduate degree in public affairs is desired. Higher education or public budgeting and planning experience or coursework is desired. Experience working in academic research with grants and contracts is highly valued. Experience working with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, is highly valued. Experience with the Workday financial management platform is valued.
