Full-Time Software Development Team Lead & Mentor

Helium Foot Software – Posted by tobey@heliumfoot.com United States

Job Description

Who We Are

At Helium Foot Software we strive to delight. We want our clients and coworkers to feel utterly delighted by our work AND by working together. Our business is building mobile apps and our drive is to make them delightful. Helium Foot is so incredibly fortunate to work on interesting and impactful projects.

An abbreviated sampling of our projects:

  • A 30+ device (mixed iPad, iPhone, Android) peer to peer system used to run swim meets
  • A cross platform app for real time competition results
  • A set of iOS and Android apps that allow scientific researchers and mental health professionals to deliver self-administered cognitive tests
  • Data collection tools for a multi-billion-dollar academic study

What’s This About

Our team is ready for mentorship and a champion to promote best practices. The title for this role is flexible, but the first priority is mentoring, teaching, providing ad-hoc support, facilitating professional development, and holding the team accountable for best practices. Secondarily, this role will likely involve some development on our diverse products and projects. Direct management is not a requirement for the role. The role will be different based on the candidate we select and will continue to evolve with the growth of Helium Foot Software.

You are right for this role if you are:

  • more passionate about teaching and assisting others than you are about how much code you write each week
  • comfortable working across multiple projects and technologies concurrently
  • experienced and have a successful track record developing software

Ideal candidates have experience in mentoring individuals and collaborating with groups from diverse backgrounds. This is a full-time, fully remote role.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor the individual contributors at Helium Foot Software
    • Paired programming, collaborating with developers to solve problems and grow their skills
    • Provide ad hoc, sometimes time sensitive, support and advice to the developers on the team
    • Suggest resources for further professional/skill development
  • Establish standards for development and documentation based on best practices
  • Provide constructive feedback on work products produced by team members
    • Collaborating on optimal metrics to measure team performance
    • Provide input to developer performance evaluations (flexible)
  • Directly contribute to various development projects/client work

Requirements

  • Proficiency across iOS, Android, and Web development with expertise in at least one
  • Empathy, patience, and seriously excellent communications skills in your unique voice
  • Enthusiasm and proficiency for learning and teaching new technology
  • Living in the US; US work authorization without needing sponsorship

Desired Attributes

  • Experience mentoring junior and mid-level developers
  • Strength in advanced programming concepts
  • Experience with unit testing, continuous integration, and mobile/web app deployment
  • Knowledgeable on best practices for coding standards and documentation

Not Required

  • Any specific academic credentials
  • A background check
  • Commute or Travel

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $110,000 – $180,000. The role and responsibilities will be different based on the qualifications and interests of the candidate selected, role expectations will be discussed during the interview process and the salary will match the finalized job description.

Helium Foot Software offers health and dental insurance, and a 401K with a 3% company contribution regardless of your own contributions. We are committed to improving the benefits offered as we grow; vision insurance will be added in 2023.

Helium Foot Software is committed to being fully remote. Synchronous work (ex. paired programming) needs to be done during business hours, but asynchronous work can be done on a flexible schedule.

Finally…

We know that the confidence gap and imposter syndrome are Real Things and are dispirited knowing that it keeps us from meeting some excellent candidates. Please don’t hesitate to apply or to just reach out to us.
