We are seeking a Benefits Specialist to work remotely on a full-time 37.5-hour per week basis.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for providing high-level service to employees by communicating via telephone or zoom to conduct individual personalized benefit review sessions and properly educate employees on all core and voluntary benefit insurance offerings. The Benefits Specialist will ensure that each employee has a comprehensive understanding of the benefit options available by providing guidance, direction, and support for our valued employees to effectively utilize and navigate Fielding’s health benefits options and systems. The position will deliver a positive experience while meeting employees’ needs and working to resolve benefits-related issues.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conduct new employee orientation sessions via Zoom or in person.
2. Conduct benefit overviews and provide enrollment assistance telephonically or via zoom by reaching out or responding to newly-hired and current employees.
3. Advise employees on their core and voluntary benefit options.
4. Accurately capture and input employee enrollment decisions with employees by using carrier websites and ADP.
5. Create a positive environment to counsel employees about their core and voluntary benefit options and coverages.
6. Accept inbound service calls, emails, and appointment requests from employees regarding benefit plans and enrollment.
7. Conduct outbound service calls, schedule appointments, and send emails to follow up and address employee questions that cannot be resolved during the initial call.
8. Promptly notify and collaborate with supervisor and colleagues when recognizing a complex issue or unusual matter to ensure it is resolved thoroughly and accurately.
9. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Fielding’s benefits plans and enrollment process.
10. Provide benefit information to members, about questions and concerns about benefit options. Help members compare and contrast benefits during open enrollment and when members experience a change of status or life event.
11. Prepare contribution lists for 403b contributions and submit them in sync with payroll.
12. Coordinate with external partners in support of retirement programs, including required meetings, documentation, and plan implementation review.
13. Assist with all administrative aspects of the leave of absence and workers’ compensation programs in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws.
14. Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding leave of absence and workers’ compensation.
15. Assist with the preparation of required reporting for audits and compliance.
16. Reconcile and process benefits invoices monthly with our Accounting department.
17 Promote employee engagement by hosting interactive virtual events that describe the many different benefits Fielding provides employees.
III. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years’ work experience working with employee benefit plans and using an HRIS in a fast-paced work environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
1. Knowledge of insurance products, including core and voluntary benefits
2. Strong writing, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
3. Able to allocate time and effort effectively to meet employee availability and university needs.
4. Knowledge of federal employee benefit entitlements and regulations, e.g., ERISA, ACA, FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, and HIPAA
5. Knowledge of overall human resource functions
6. Strong analytical and computer skills
7. Excellent attention to detail
8. Customer service oriented
9. Basic project management skills
10. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse employee population
11. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
