Our Underwriting team is looking for a experience Underwriter who has strong skills in the liability insurance industry, preferably large hospitals.  We are a focused, fast-paced team supporting a successful renewal retention rate of 100%, and currently working collaboratively across our two main underwriting locations: Granite Bay and Alamo.  If you are an experience underwriter driven by results-oriented goals, have the ability to build strong key account relationships, thrive in a successful and fast-paced environment.  This position allows for telecommuting.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

This is a mid-level role in our Professional Liability Underwriting Department.  We are looking for a liability underwriter for BETA’s healthcare facilities, large hospitals and HealthPro medical groups.  In this role, you will use methods necessary to meet projected contribution/premium and profitability goals and will be responsible for providing coverage contract and policy maintenance to our customers.  

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

• Underwrite and manage a book of new and renewal business to include Healthcare Professional Liability (PL) & General Liability (GL), Directors & Officers (D&O), Employment Practices Liability and Auto (EPL) coverages
• Gather and analyze information to determine risk acceptability
• Demonstrate analytical skills with the proven ability to make expedient and sound decisions
• Demonstrate success in negotiation and building collaborative relationships
• Analyze and resolve issues pertaining to coverage, including answering questions on Healthcare PL, GL, D&O, EPL and Auto coverages
• Assist facilities, medical groups, and brokers with questions regarding rates, credits, contribution/premium methodology, and census categories
• Maintain professional working relationships with all brokers and members
• Identify and discuss with management areas of improvement related to coverage and rating
• Review third-party contractual insurance requirements, specifically hold harmless and indemnification clauses
• Approve coverage requests, including underwriting and evaluating risk, completion of forms, and maintenance of data
• Perform contribution/census audits and site visits as required
• Meet or exceed financial goals including profit, rate, retention, and growth
• Must have reliable and safe transportation to other BETA offices, business partners, and members

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor’s degree and/or insurance designations preferred
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in insurance underwriting, preferably in hospital and/or physician malpractice
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and employ time management skills to meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including:  Word, Excel,  and other business-related software

Hiring Base Salary Range: $71,000-100,000/annual DOE
