Job Description
This position may be filled as either a Civil Engineer – Entry Level, Civil Engineer, or Principal Civil Engineer.
The Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works for the City of Oshkosh is searching for a Civil Engineer. This position requires knowledge and understanding of municipal civil engineering principles and practices in three general categories: transportation, storm water and utilities. Work involves, but is not limited to, design and preparation of construction plans and specifications, technical drafting, review of submitted plans and specifications for conformance City of Oshkosh standards, approval of right of way permits, functioning as Project Engineer on various public works projects, and coordination and communication with engineering staff, private utilities and the general public. Assignments afford some opportunity for independent judgment in planning work or in making technical decisions. This position works in cooperation with staff and may serve as a lead person over other various staff.
The Engineer position is a progressive position allowing for advancement based on experience, knowledge, and demonstrated abilities. There are three (3) levels of Engineers, and the placement of candidates upon hire will be dependent on experience.
Current programing needs are expected to include an Engineer with proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and street pavement design.
The entry level Civil Engineer will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school and possess a valid driver’s license upon employment.
The mid-level Civil Engineer will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school, 2-4 years of related experience, and possess a valid driver’s license upon employment.
The Principal Civil Engineer will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school, four or more years of related municipal engineering experience which includes preparation and/or review of complex, comprehensive system plans. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin is preferred. Candidates are also required to possess a valid driver’s license upon employment.
This is an exempt position with a full benefits package. Compensation starts at $2,679.74 biweekly but could go as high as $3,083.13 biweekly, based on at which level the position is filled.
