Intertek, a leading provider of ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection, and Certification) Services, is looking for a Regional Lab Manager for our Kent, WA location as part of our Building & Construction team. The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.
Regional Lab Manager – Kent, WA

Intertek is searching for a Regional Lab Manager to join our Building & Construction team in our Kent, WA office.  This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a third party testing laboratory in both in-lab and field testing of various building products in the growing Seattle area.

The Regional Manager is responsible for for the coordination, leadership, management, monitoring, and expansion of services of the Kent location.  The position will have engineers, technicians, sales, and support staff reporting to them.

What you will do:

  • Leverage operations to achieve growth objectives of the business
  • Develop and maintain a departmental budget
  • Coordinate and dispatch staff and equipment to best utilize personnel and equipment to meet customer schedule and project needs
  • Prepare layout for curtain walls for curtain wall mock-ups, and coordinate efforts with VP of Operations on large scale test mock-ups, if applicable
  • Establish and execute a personnel training and professional development plan
  • Hire, train, manage, evaluate (through performance reviews), and hold regular meetings with direct subordinates
  • Work with QA to establish best practice procedures for testing areas under assigned area of responsibility
  • Coordinate participation in, and review results of, Proficiency Testing/Inter-laboratory Comparisons/Round Robins, documenting and investigating irregularities/outliers
  • Coordinate all certifications relative to areas of responsibility with QA
  • Mentor and develop staff by setting appropriate goals and objectives
  • Research, assist in the development of, and promote new business opportunities
  • Assist Project Coordinator/Facilitator in providing quotes relative to areas of service
  • Assist others with scheduling, execution, and customer care as needed to grow the business
  • Review reports and invoicing relative to area(s) of responsibility
  • Performs other work as required

What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in science or engineering preferred
  • 5+ years supervisory or managerial experience in commercial construction related business
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent leadership and team building skills
  • Self-motivated and assertive
  • Technical competence to interpret and effectively communicate test procedures, specifications and results with team, customers, consultants, and specifiers
  • Knowledge and understanding of all equipment, test methods/methodology and applicable specifications associated with areas of responsibility
  • Experience that facilitates an understanding of computers and software developed for the fenestration industry, to a degree applicable to area(s) of responsibility
  • Have familiarity with and be willing to participate in industry organizations involved in writing test methods and specifications
  • Ability to effectively manage team and organize the workload
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate
