Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is on a mission to make the world’s roads and drivers safer. Our first product launched in 2012 and pioneered mobile usage-based insurance. We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our IoT group to be responsible for the maintenance, oversight, and continuous improvement of our highest-volume production line in Sterling, MA dedicated to our DriveWell Tag product. This line is a critical component of our business and high revenue driver for CMT, so this role is a key hire for our team.   

This role will encompass in-depth involvement and partnership with our current contract manufacturers, mainly to maintain our high-volume manufacturing system for this product. The role will work in tandem as part of our hardware and production groups to directly support our CM partners, helping to troubleshoot issues and improve efficiencies. Although this is an existing and established line, there are many process improvements to be made, so we are looking for someone with process improvement experience and who is passionate about this type of work. 

The right candidate for this role should be comfortable with and motivated by owning processes and making decisions independently with little supervision, as well as demonstrate excellent organization and sound problem-solving skills. Previous hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment is a must. 

A note on location – at least for the first 6 to 12 months in this role, this position must be flexible to split their time 50/50 between Sterling and Cambridge (or remote/from home), as the onsite work in the first couple of months in this role will be crucial.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with CMs to oversee and maintain a high-volume, business-critical IoT device manufacturing process
  • Seek out ways to improve quality, reliability, and throughput of manufacturing
  • Respond to stoppages and failures at the factories, remotely and on-site as needed
  • Work with customers for individual customization of builds
  • Review factory data and provide quality sign-offs on product samples
  • Engage with suppliers of production equipment for both debugging and updates
  • Document all changes to designs and manufacturing processes
  • Complete any additional tasks that may arise and provide support to various projects

Qualifications:

  • 4 to 5+ years of relevant experience working hands-on in a manufacturing environment maintaining high-volume production line(s) and identifying and implementing process improvements 
  • Bachelors or Masters of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering 
  • Proven experience working with contract manufacturers
  • Experience with some or all of the following: injection molding, PCBA fabrication, automated assembly/manufacturing, in-line quality and functional testing, circuit board manufacturing, SMT, high volume board testing and programming
  • Experience with factory testing of RF devices (i.e. Bluetooth, LTE, GPS – but at a minimum must have Bluetooth experience)
  • Ability to clearly communicate manufacturing status, blocks, and plans to resolve with management, customers, and CMs 
  • Experience using statistical methods to approach issues (i.e. debug/resolve manufacturing issues)
  • Proven track record of working and making decisions independently
  • Go-getter mentality and self-driven attitude to take initiative alongside a willingness to be flexible

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 familiarity (CIS/CIT preferred)
  • Experience with data visualization (Tableau)
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with OnShape or Solidworks
