Job Description

The senior marketing representative has authority to negotiate pricing and commission directly with insurance company underwriters.  The senior representative also has the authority, working in conjunction with the sales manager, to advise sales producers when information is lacking and whether or not a prospect is viable.  Senior Representative reviews carrier proposals and prepares client proposals without management direction.  Position requires evaluation of complex risks including loss analysis, risk and coverage exposures and review of classifications.  When appropriate, involves manager on the placement of unique risks.

Primarily responsible for supporting large commercial lines account producers in achieving new business objective through the marketing and placement of new submissions by:

Consultation & Collaboration:

• Marketing and placement of middle market, higher complexity accounts. Experience with loss sensitive placements and alternative risk programs is preferred.
• Responsibilities include consulting with sales producer and sales manager to confirm viability of opportunity.
• Review of coverage terms, service and pricing needs to ensure they meet the requirements of the opportunity.
• Evaluate prospect information and advise sales producer of the need for additional supporting underwriting information.
• Provide market recommendations based on carrier appetite.
• Review of underwriting information and accord applications prior to presentation to carriers.
• Handle all negotiations including coverage terms, conditions and pricing with insurance company underwriters.
• Collaborate with team on preparation and response to client/broker Request for Proposals (RFP).
• Primary role is focused on new business however candidate may be called upon to assist service team in the placement of challenging renewals.

Administrative:

• Review carrier quotations for accuracy and prepare proposals for presentation to producers and clients.
• Create client proposal including collaboration with service and sales in assisting with initial service plan.
• Arrange finance agreements as needed.
• Provide binding instructions, adherence to agency management (EPIC) new business workflow processes including policy line setup, issuance of binders, update applications as needed and provide billing instructions.
• Analyst is responsible for coordinating account transfer meeting to ensure smooth transition from marketing representative to service staff.
• Ensure that all correspondence, including carrier submissions and proposals, are documented to the file in EPIC.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Attend carrier product meetings and internal sales meetings as required.
• Accompany sales producers on prospect calls as needed.
• Performs other special projects as requested by Manager and/or Senior Management.

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

Experience with loss sensitive, alternative risk programs including shared and layered property placement is highly desired.  Eastern Insurance Group is a generalist agency however we have a number of practice groups including Construction, Real Estate, Non Profit, Technology, Lumber and Public Sector to name a few.  Specific experience with niche industry classes or product lines is preferred but not required.  Industry generalists are encouraged to apply.

• Bachelor’s degree and ten or more years of training experience and/or related experience in an agency or insurance company environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• MA Property and Casualty Brokers License required (or within 60 days).  CIC, CPCU or ARM Designation preferred.  Experience using AMS/EPIC, carrier rating systems and working knowledge of MS Excel preferred.
