Director of Marketing and Branding, College of Visual and Performing Arts

 

The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) Director of Marketing and Branding is a visionary thinker with strong interpersonal skills who promotes activities and events across three schools (the School of Art, Design, and Art History; the School of Music; and the School of Theatre and Dance), the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts and the Office of Creative Propulsion. This includes proven ability to coordinate with university and college leaders to effectively leverage social media and web platforms for promotional and development purposes. The CVPA Director of Marketing and Branding must be able to collaborate with the dean, school and center directors, and faculty members to design and implement a strategy to reach both regional and national audiences. The successful candidate will be a highly detailed professional with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage multiple social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and websites, to create ads and brochures, and to write press releases and promotional stories.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build on the CVPA brand identity (nationally and internationally) with a clear and proactive strategy that, in collaboration with stakeholders, will assist the schools and centers in expanding their reach and impact;
  • Provide visionary leadership that supports opportunities to expand recognition for all units in the college;
  • Promote diversity, in all its forms, in marketing materials and promotional stories;
  • Maintain and improve efficiencies and the use of advertising and marketing metrics to inform decision-making;
  • Foster a collaborative culture based on open communication with faculty members, staff members, deans, students, alumni and University administration;
  • Oversee the budget and management of communications- and marketing-related resources;
  • Assess CVPA’s marketing needs and existing strategies as they relate to JMU’s mission, vision, core values and strategic plan;
  • Oversee and manage the creation of marketing collateral, press releases, promotional stories and program books, including the coordination of photo shoots and interviews;
  • Oversee the management of the Forbes Center and CVPA websites and their social media presences;
  • Supervise a part-time graphic designer;
  • Collaborate with University Advancement to advance CVPA development goals and fundraise for JMU

 

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate or master’s degree in a relevant field and an interest in supporting arts and design in a higher education environment;
  • Experience in developing a content and marketing strategy for social media platforms and websites;
  • Experience with content management systems, digital publishing tools and Adobe InDesign is preferred;
  • Record of strong leadership and coordination across multiple stakeholder groups to improve awareness and advance a brand;
  • Experience in generating and analyzing statistical data to help identify areas of strength and opportunities in communications and marketing, and to identify new ways to promote the organization;
  • Proven ability to cross-functionally articulate the essential value of the organization;
  • Highly detailed work style and ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
