Full-Time Communications Manager

RSLiterature – Posted by RSLiterature London, England, United Kingdom

Job Description

The RSL works as a voice to celebrate and champion the value of literature, to engage the public in literature, and to honour and encourage great writers. We celebrate the transformative power of literature and champion the great diversity of writing and writers in the UK, from the last 200 years and today.

In November 2020, the RSL launched its five-year 200th birthday festival, RSL 200. Over the coming years, the RSL 200 will explore, interrogate and reimagine the UK’s literary landscape as we celebrate the best in British writing, past, present, and future. Through the festival, the RSL will continue to share literature with the greatest number of people across the UK and beyond, showing the power of literature to shape society and to change and individual life through new and continuing programmes.

An important part of the role of the Communications Manager is to make this project come alive to current and new audiences, readers, and writers.

This is an opportunity for a dynamic, experienced, and highly organised Communications Manager to join the Royal Society of Literature’s small, collaborative team.

Reporting to the Director, your work will be bringing to life the Communications Strategy produced by a consultant and the Director, overseeing the RSL’s communications and audience development. You will create content for the website, press and social media that inspires all our audiences to actively engage with our work and literature as a whole. You will collect and analyse data to read and respond to our current audiences and grow new audiences for our public events programmes and help increase Membership. Fundraising is a connected to the work of the whole team, so all media needs to help drive donations, and increase income generation in line with the organisation’s aims and charitable objectives.

The postholder will be leading on the development of a new website and refresh of the brand in 2022. This is an exciting time to join our team and diversify the RSL’s growing programme of work.

As well as sharing vital aspects of our work with the public and partners, you will bring a sense of fun to our communications, feeling confident to inject your own personality into developing the tone and voice of the organisation. We are a highly committed team of people dedicated to our work and are looking for a skilled and capable candidate to champion what the RSL does, to all in our current community, and beyond to new audiences.
