Full-Time Strategist

the greater – Posted by the greater Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Job Description

WHO WE ARE:

the greater is a strategy consulting firm and social enterprise that exists to help brands become great by doing good. We were founded in 2020 by two experienced marketing agency executives who believe in a purpose+ mindset—where a clear commitment to social impact is the path to long-term sustainable brand profit.

Our work spans the spectrum of helping companies identify, articulate and activate their purpose. This includes consulting to determine what that purpose should be, what kind of social impact they will have, and how they can translate the good they are doing in the world to realize business, brand and talent outcomes.

We work with agencies, brands, and organizations across all sectors from corporations to not-for-profits.

We invest 50% of our net profit back into community charities, organizations, and initiatives that provide vital services to equity-deserving groups.

We are a Certified Living Wage Employer and are working towards becoming B Corp certified.

THE ROLE:

the greater is looking for a catalyst for change who wants to join our growing team in the role of Strategist.

We believe that the best strategies are done with people, not at people. This means you’ll be counted on to provide smart strategic counsel and guide collaborative projects that get the best out of everyone in the room.

You’ll be a key player within our growing entrepreneurial start up. You’ll take a lead role in key projects with our clients to help develop strategic counsel and provide recommendations, as well as support co-founders and Strategy Directors on the projects they chair. Our strategists work directly with clients and manage project deliverables, so you will also stretch your account management muscles. Finally, as an empowered member of our team, you’ll help shape the evolution of our organization through your contributions to our operations, communications and thought leadership.

There’s no one right way to do strategy so instead of listing down skills and attributes that run the gamut on the expected qualifications, we’d rather use this time to give you a range of contexts and situations where we think you must shine to be successful in this role:

  • Ambiguity:so much of what we’re helping our clients to do has never been done before. There’s no road map so we need to be agile and innovative in real time. If you like a blank page to work from, can help to see the path where others cannot, and are ready to make brave recommendations, this might be a role for you.
  • High Performance Team:we’re a small but mighty team and we all do things that are inside and outside our role to help drive the work forward. If you regularly put up your hand and bring forth new ideas and ways of working (even when those conflict with the norm) then you’ll fit right in with us.
  • Clients as Partners:we work best when we’re actively engaged with our clients as thought partners. A great collaboration session with sticky notes (or virtual whiteboards) gets us going and leads to great outcomes. There’s minimal “big reveal” presentation moments here. We love to impress and delight with new thinking but first and foremost we believe in the power of teams. This means you’ll get direct engagement with clients to riff off one another regularly. If you’re someone that wants to work closely with your clients to collaborate as partners, then look no further
  • Always Learning: We’re at our best when we’re staying on the pulse of the industry and consuming content that gives us new learning. From ESGs to NFTs, we need somebody who is naturally curious on trends inside and outside of Purpose marketing. Seeing opportunity in the collision of many interconnected concepts and craving continuous learning will help you thrive with us.
  • Storytellers: Our product is our people, and our people must excel in communications. We need to bring clarity to everything we do and communicate complex ideas with simplicity. We’re seeking is clear, decisive, and easy to comprehend recommendations.
  • Genuine passion: We’re not just changing how agencies operate, we’re helping to change the world. The work we do will create positive social impact. Genuine interest in this space will help you to feel amazing each day about what you do and bring out your best.
  • Grit: The work we take on is hard. You will be challenged and sometimes it might feel daunting. Where most people stop is where we find our next level. We are a team first, so you’ll never be on your own. And as a team, we expect everyone to show up and support each other with a commitment to find a way when the way is unclear.
