The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Cook I for the Murray Developmental Center located in Centralia, Illinois to cook meats and vegetables and prepare other foods and beverages. Prepares and cooks food to meet special diet menu requirements. Operates standard cooking equipment such as mixing machines, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, bake ovens, and steam kettles. Assists in the inspection of the kitchen to verify the kitchen are equipped with the necessary supplies and needed food daily. Cleans equipment and work area to maintain sanitation, safety, and conditions. Completes all Department of Human Services (OHS) mandatory training requirements and participates in educational workshops to maintain professionalism and competency.
Job Responsibilities
1. Cooks meats and vegetables and prepares other foods and beverages; prepares and cooks food to meet special diet menu requirements.
2. Operates standard cooking equipment such as mixing machines, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, bake ovens, and steam kettles.
3. Assists in the inspection of the kitchen to verify the kitchen is equipped with the necessary supplies and needed food daily.
4. Cleans equipment and work area to maintain sanitation, safety, and conditions.
5. Completes all Department of Human Services (OHS) mandatory training requirements and participates in educational workshops to maintain professionalism and competency.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school and six months of cooking experience which provides a working knowledge of food preparation and cooking methods on a large-scale basis.
2. Requires possessing a valid Food Service Sanitation Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health or requires possession of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI); Conference for Food Protection (CFP).
• Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency instead of the stated education and experience requirements for this class.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires the ability to lift heavy and/or carry heavy items and to push or pull carts laden with food items or supplies.
2. Requires the ability to work after business hours weekends and holidays.
3. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
5. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
