Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire an energetic and detail-oriented licensed Registered Nurse to oversee and supervise the operations of an assigned medical program unit on an assigned shift at the Chester Mental Health Center in Chester. The position will supervise and administer the activities of professional nursing staff providing health care services to individuals served at Chester Mental Health Center. The Chester Mental Health Center is designed to provide care and treatment for all adult males in the State of Illinois who require a greater degree of structure and security. Chester Mental Health Center strives to assist patients to achieve their full recovery potential and values culture, safety, recovery, efficiency, and quality.
Job Responsibilities
 1. Serves as a full line supervisor.
2. Directs and monitors mental health intake and admission programs including screening, triaging, and admitting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to the facility’s program.
3. Evaluates the day-to-day performance of staff.
4. Assists in recruitment and training of staff.
5. Monitors compliance with continuity of care agreements by facility staff and Community Mental Health Systems which are signatories to such agreements.
6. Meets with Nursing Services Administrator and Unit Administrator to ensure quality individual care is provided.
7. Conducts and participates in committee and professional activities, task groups, and other quality assurance-related activities.
8. Serves as an Administrator on Duty (AOD) on a rotating basis, exercising full authority after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
9. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  1.  Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  2. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in nursing.
  3. Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization.
Preferred Qualifications (in priority order)
  1.  Three (3) years of professional nursing experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or developmental disabilities.
  2. Three (3) years of professional experience supervising professional nursing staff.
  3. One (1) year of professional experience directing and monitoring intake and/or admission programs for a health treatment facility.
  4. Three (3) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures relative to the latest trends and nursing standards.
  5. One (1) year of professional experience training nursing staff on nursing care practices and techniques.
  6. One (1) year of professional nursing experience communicating in verbal or written form with patients and/or individuals.
  7. One (1) year of professional experience completing and conducting employee performance evaluations.
  8. One (1) year of professional experience recommending and implementing disciplinary actions following collective bargaining agreements.
  9. One (1) year of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments on nursing services and treatments provided to patients and/or individuals.
  10. Proficient in the use of office equipment, including computers.
Conditions of Employment
  1.  Ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotation basis as Administrator on Duty (AOD).
  2. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  3. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero-tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position holder is prohibited.
