Full-Time Network Operations Tech II

Job Description

Performs duties involving the installation, testing, maintaining, and repairing all Network Operations equipment to ensure the continuity of service, this includes voice, video and data.

What you will do to contribute to the company’s success

  • Assist with install, maintain, test and repairs all Network Operations digital switching and transmission equipment; including but not limited to the MDF, NT DMS Super Node,  Genband C20, Calix/Occam, Huawei and Eltek systems, Optical systems, and multiplexer equipment by reading and interpreting documentation, specifications and blueprints for all Network Operations equipment; utilizing the latest test equipment and hand tools necessary to perform the job.
  • Perform installation, maintenance and repair on all of the Network Operations RF/HFC/DOCSIS/IPTV related equipment, including but not limited to A & D Servers, Satellite Receivers, Multiplexers, Modulators, Aggregators, Optical Laser Transmitters/Receivers and CMTS related equipment.
  • Interprets and implements Network Operations related service orders, work orders and trouble reports by communicating effectively with other departments; including but not limited to man/machine interfacing, installation and relocation of equipment, verification of completion of work order.
  • Works with other departments to identify and resolve issues anywhere on the network up to the customer premise.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of telephony, digital applications, color codes, and power theory.
  • Ensure that all Network Operations related locations are maintained to Hargray standards.
  • Maintains and replaces Physical Equipment.
  • Checks and maintains ground zones/fields.
  • Tests and may assist other departments in running jumpers on MDF.
  • Loads, configures and tests all software and network connections necessary for the deployment and operation of Network operations equipment.
  • Supports monitoring and access capabilities for all equipment used by the NOC, reacts to alarms as required.
  • Provides training, assistance and mentoring to new and fellow department employees.
  • Ensures that vehicles, tools and equipment are properly used and kept in good working order; complete necessary paperwork to request maintenance, replacement or repairs.
  • Submits personal time reports, material charge outs, as well as other required paperwork legibly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains all Network Operations work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Documents and test all new system components to establish a baseline for future testing and operation.
  • Performs intrusive testing and repairs at times which cause the least inconvenience to customers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure effective operation of the network.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate.
  • 4-8 years of direct experience
  • Must have knowledge of basic electronics theory/practice.
  • Working knowledge of computers and communication hardware/software.
  • Experience in installation, troubleshooting and repair of HFC or IPTV networks.
  • Working knowledge of MPEG Video, DOCSIS and IP Address fundamentals.
  • Ability to use multiple and various test equipment.
  • Reads, understands, interprets, and applies written instructions, such as equipment manuals, in operation and troubleshooting of network operations systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a history of safe driving record.
  • Working knowledge of Voice Over IP, soft switches, and IAD’s.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be willing to travel to various Hargray related locations
  • Must be able to work various schedules extended hours, include overnight assignments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
