Position Summary
The Student Health and Wellness Center at the University of North Texas is looking for an experienced massage therapist to join our team. Please note that this is an independent contractor position.
The UNT Student Health and Wellness Center, located in Chestnut Hall on the Denton, Texas campus, offers affordable, quality massage services to UNT students and employees. The Health Center offers 30-minute and 60-minute massage therapy appointments based on a series of schedule blocks as set by the massage therapist and the Health Center during office hours Monday-Thursday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm and Friday from 9:30 am-5:00 pm. UNT students pay set prices for massages, and UNT employees pay a slightly higher rate. Clients pay all fees directly to massage therapists at the time of service. Our massage therapist retains all monies received, including gratuities, from their clients as payment in full for therapy services rendered. There is some ability to negotiate rates for services.
Massage therapists work as independent contractors under a service agreement with the Student Health and Wellness Center. Our new massage therapist must be licensed and in good standing with the State of Texas. Our therapist must also maintain sufficient professional liability insurance that lists UNT as an additional insured. Massage therapists will be allowed to determine a weekly schedule within Health Center office hours but must provide at least 20 hours of availability each week.
The Health Center will provide our massage therapist with a designated private massage room that includes a private half bath and linen closet. The Health Center will also provide advertising, linen, and scheduling services for massage therapy appointments. The Health Center requires training for our new massage therapist regarding
HIPAA, safety issues, patient privacy, and documentation procedures for using our electronic health records system. The Health Center will also ensure that our new massage therapist receives timely notifications of UNT schedule changes, including holidays and other closure dates.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently licensed as a massage therapist in the state of Texas, and must carry liability insurance for self and clients. Proof of licensure and liability insurance coverage will be required before starting the job.
- Familiarity or ability to learn our electronic health record system for documenting massage services.
- Ability to provide 20 hours or more of availability for massage services during Meadows Center office hours (Monday-Thursday 8:30 am to 5 pm, Friday 9:30 am to 5 pm.).
- Complete required training on cybersecurity, FERPA and HIPAA requirements, bloodborne pathogens, safety procedures, and other topics. Required training includes initial training at the start of the contract and annual refreshers as determined by UNT Student Health and Wellness Center.
