Full-Time Senior Survey Technician (Engineering Technician, Sr)

Job Summary
Performs responsible office and field engineering duties within the Departments of Community Development and Public Works. Assignments and duties may include surveying, construction inspection, materials laboratory, water quality programs, bridge inspection, maintenance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), development engineering, and transportation management. Provides support for department engineers by performing calculations, information gathering, and record keeping. Acts as a lead person over other engineering technicians and related support staff.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
An Associate of Science Degree in Surveying Technology or closely related field and at least 3 years of experience in a position equivalent to an Engineering Technician, Survey. A Bachelor of Science in Surveying/Geomatics or closely related field may be substituted for one to two years of the above experience requirement. All combinations of education and experience may be considered. Official transcripts may be required at the time of hire.
Knowledge of: Surveying principles, practices, and equipment; Washington State Statutes and Administrative Codes relating to Land Surveying; mathematics (trigonometry, geometry); coordinate transformations especially as they relate to GPS, state plane coordinate systems, and control networks; error analysis and adjustment theories; and the county road establishment process.
Ability to: Interpret construction plans and specifications, use a personal computer, interact with the public and/or contractors, operate basic surveying equipment, lead and direct support staff, perform technical research work on routine surveying problems, analyze data and provide professional opinion based on solid surveying principles to a variety of internal and external contacts, communicate professionally both orally and in writing, understand department policies and procedures as well as work standards and codes applicable to the job.

Salary Grade: Local 17 Engineers.210 ($32.43 – $41.39) per hour
