OVERVIEW
This editor is the creative lead behind player publishing within Social Player Development, the NHL’s initiative that assists players who seek to build their personal brands and engage with their fans via personal social media channels. The primary function of this creative role is to produce and edit custom hype videos and visually-striking photo collages that players want to post on their personal social media channels 365 days a year.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 1. Lead the production of athlete-driven content both independently and with support from a team of graphic designers, video editors, and motion graphic designers.
2. Take direction and run with it to support of NHL players who want to grow their personal brands on social media:

  •  Receive ideas submitted by athletes and their agents and develop them to create custom videos and images that are ready to publish in as few as 24 hours.
  • Collaborate with NHL video editors and designers to push the creative boundaries of each platform to entertain fans.
  • Ensure NHL prospects maximize their use of the platform when they enter the NHL in coordination with the Manager, Social Media.
  • Collect and review data and player feedback, digest analytics, draw insights, and adjust course as needed from one project to the next.
  • Lead the creative direction of Player Publishing within the NHL’s social media team via Slack and during regular team meetings.
3. Find inspiration everywhere. Scour the feeds of athletes across the globe and borrow from the best to turn heads and stop thumbs with your original videos, photos and graphics.
4. Execute the principles and strategy outlined under the NHL’s Social Player Development program
5. Once you get a feel for the role as outlined above, expect to raise your own expectations and redefine it with guidance from your manager. The person who assumes this role will bring a forward-thinking mindset to the job each day and will be eager to push the boundaries of what’s possible in pursuit of the goals outlined for Social Player Development during the 2022-23 NHL season.This job is based in NHL’s New York City office, which has a flexible work policy. NHL events require occasional work on weekends and travel within the United States and Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Proven expert video editing and graphic design skills in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe After Effects with experience serving for athletes, teams, a sports league and/or leading sports brand.
  • Crystal clear written and verbal communication skills in every modern form including a variety of remote team collaboration and project management tools – i.e. Slack, Zoom, and Monday.com.
  • Independent approach to innovative work on small team within a large organization. We work with 32 teams across the United States and Canada to support as many as 700 current NHL players.
  • Proven experience managing creative assignments ranging from urgent to long term simultaneously, many of which require quick thinking, flexible time management, and proactive communication.
  • Wide spectrum of previous work developing and producing social media content on every social media platform with a keen interest in the latest features.
  • Levels of adaptability and comfort with a range of tech software and tools from the latest and greatest to the outdated-but-essential.
  • Developing knowledge of Web3, NFTs, blockchain, and the emerging technologies that are shaping the digital future of what it means to be an athlete and a fan.
  • Eager approach to creative development within a team and across an organization
  • Proven experience shooting high quality images and video for is a valuable asset to this role but it’s not a requirement.
  • Professional mindset regarding feedback and constructive criticism, plus experience providing feedback to others with consideration and confidence.
  • This role requires work on nights and weekends and occasional travel within North America.
