Term: Permanent

Hours: Full time

Location: Hybrid working in place, with 1-2 days per week, in AAT’s fantastic office in Canary Wharf.

The Head of Public Policy and Public Affairs will contribute to the achievement of AAT’s business plan objectives and the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation by securing public policy change that is in AAT members’ interests – through the initiation, amendment or prevention of legislation, policy and regulations.

They will act as AAT’s primary relationship holder of key relationships across government, Parliament and with other key external stakeholders and will raise AAT’s profile, status and credibility through relevant external engagement and lobbying activity

They will manage the effective strategic development, review and management of AAT’s public affairs and public policy strategy, develop thought leadership initiatives and manage relevant public affairs campaigns.

As Head of PPPA, the successful candidate will secure greater recognition for AAT and its membership within the accountancy and tax profession, the education and skills sector, on the Responsible Business agenda and on a wider public benefit basis.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a senior public affairs role.
  • Experience of working in/with the English political system including understanding parliamentary process and legislative systems, with additional experience of the Welsh, Scottish & Northern Irish political systems.
  • Experience of writing impactful briefings for internal and external stakeholders including parliamentarians.
  • Experience of drafting public policy consultation document responses.
  • Experience of networking and developing/managing key external relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate information and develop a strategic approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to regularly make effective decisions under pressure.
