SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Director of Finance oversees all of the financial systems and staff in a $16M organization that is dynamic and growing. The Director of Finance is an important part of the JVS Leadership and Operations teams. This position collaborates with all leadership to make sure that the organization is managing its resources effectively to achieve our desired outcomes in a constantly changing environment with different types of revenue and related cost accounting and tracking systems. The Director of Finance ensures that the finance and accounting functions of the organization are accomplished effectively and on a timely basis including providing clear direction and guidelines, requiring the use of initiative and independent judgment when applying working knowledge of accounting and financial reporting.
This role reports to the COO and collaborates with JVS Staff, outside parties, and Board committees. The Director of Finance supervises the Staff Accountant, Senior Revenue Accountant, and the Payroll Manager.
Scope
- Oversight of day-to-day operations of accounting, including staff supervision
- Oversight of monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes
- Annual and project-based budget preparation and maintenance
- Preparation of internal and external financial reports
- Coordinate external audits and monitoring
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies & procedures, Uniform Guidance, and contractual obligations and provisions
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience
- At least 5 years’ of demonstrated financial management experience in a complex organization
- 3 years’ experience in financial statement preparation
- Proven expertise in GAAP and internal controls as well as in the development and implementation of new systems
- Previous supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years’ experience with application of Uniform Guidance standards or A-133 audits
- Experience with financial modeling and projections
- Relationship-building skills: ability to promote collaborative decision-making, negotiate to consensus, foster collaboration both within and across teams, and effectively facilitate collaborative efforts
- Team development: a demonstrated ability to supervise, recruit, and train staff in a way that motivated them to do their best and provides them opportunities to learn and grow
- Ability to navigate change: pro-active, clear and consistent communications with staff including solicitation of feedback from staff, especially during times of change, ability to live with ambiguity during transition periods
- Sound judgment: advanced problem identification and resolution skills
