Summary:
This position has the responsibility to establish an enterprise middleware strategy and execute the enterprise middleware technology functions on a day-to-day basis. The Lead Administrator, Middleware provides leadership of multiple technology functions with responsibility for management of enterprise middleware platforms, evaluating new middleware solutions, ensuring compliance across the middleware stack to ensure core applications are running efficiently across the middleware platforms.
Essential functions:
- Lead troubleshooting and problem solving of the most complex middleware issues, driving activities across application verticals to a successful conclusion
- Must have experience with installing, configuring, optimizing and troubleshooting support for the WebSphere MQ and Cloudera Kafka.
- Oversee efforts to ensure proper monitoring and alerting in place across middleware stack
- Ensure proper sizing / memory allocations are in place across the middleware stack
- Experience Administering Kafka Topics, Clusters etc
- Experience managing kafka clusters including security, Maintenace and support
- Expert in defining and modifying MQ configurations such as data sources, listener ports, transports, channels, pub/sub, etc.
- Experience with security hardening of WebSphere MQ to include SSL encryption and Authority/Authentication Records
- Support MQ queue managers and objects running client operating systems
- Work with application Development Teams to determine messaging requirements. Utilize that information to establish and modify enterprise Messaging Software infrastructure requirements
- Creation of key performance metrics, measuring the utilization, performance and overall health of the cluster.
- Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
- Collaborate with stakeholders to build and maintain a robust, reliable Middlware platform
- Identify and recommend training to ensure middleware team focused on becoming center of excellence
- Collects and presents data for reporting and planning
- Good knowledge of Perl, Python and Java.
- Writes programming/scripting
- May participate in Disaster Recovery planning and exercises
- Performs on-call activities as needed for the environment and technologies
Requirements:
- Extensive working knowledge of WebSphere MQ and Cloudera Kafka
- Extensive experience implementing and administering/managing technical solutions in major, large-scale system implementations
- High critical thinking skills to evaluate alternatives and present solutions that are consistent with business objectives and strategy.
- Ability to manage tasks independently and take ownership of responsibilities
- Ability to learn from mistakes and apply constructive feedback to improve performance
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and articulately
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
- Experience analyzing business requirements and translating them into technical solutions
- Experience using Agile methodology
Required Experience:
- 5-8 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of transferable experience demonstrating proficiency and experience in design, implementation, monitoring and troubleshooting WebSphere MQ
- 2-5 years of experience in managing Kafka cluster.
Required Education:
- Related Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field or relevant work experience
