Full-Time Director of Development, West

This role will direct development efforts in California, as well as Nevada and Arizona as needed, and will focus on identifying, cultivating, and stewarding high-capacity donors, as well as building relationships with foundations and helping to evolve fundraising systems. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In partnership with the Regional Director (West) and National Development Team, develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, emphasizing individual donor cultivation and including diverse revenue streams such as corporate sponsorships and foundation opportunities
  • Establish annual development goals, priorities, and quarterly KPIs to meet organizational growth expectations for the region, reconciling financials in collaboration with the Accounting Team, while closing funding gaps
  • Perform prospect research on foundations, corporations, and potential donors to identify new funding opportunities, cultivate and maintain positive relationships with high-capacity supporters, and secure significant funding as an individual contributor to regional fundraising goals
  • Train and support regional and local staff in identifying development opportunities and cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors
  • Serve as a member of the National Development Team, including participating in weekly calls and meetings and contributing to national development initiatives
  • Work with Grants Team to oversee and support grant-writing efforts as needed
  • Oversee all donor management, including engagement planning, Salesforce tracking, and gift acknowledgement
  • Travel locally and regionally to build relationships and nationally for periodic team meetings (30% total)
  • Work evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Complete other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of fundraising experience in a nonprofit setting
  • 3 years of experience working with individual donors and major gifts
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to quickly adapt to change
  • Proficiency with software including Salesforce or other CRM, word processing, spreadsheet applications, and email
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people from all walks of life
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and integrity
