Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. The Center currently has over 75 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Advocacy & Civic Engagement Manager, the Civic Engagement Coordinator joins The Center’s Engagement Team to perform various duties related to supporting, coordinating, and implementing The Center’s civic engagement, power-building, organizing, and advocacy efforts.
This position will work closely with the Chief Public Affairs & Civic Engagement Officer and Advocacy & Civic Engagement Manager to achieve short-term and long-term civic engagement, advocacy, and community engagement goals in alignment with the mission and vision of The Center.
PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead in the implementation of The Center’s civic engagement strategy for nonpartisan campaigns, including but not limited to elections, census, redistricting, and expanding voter empowerment;
- Organize and mobilize the LGBTQ community to participate in various civic engagement efforts;
- Represent The Center at the Engage San Diego table;
- Work within Political Data Inc. (PDI) to manage, track and analyze voter data to inform campaign performance;
- Using Center learned best practices, coordinate the development of organizing materials, including talking points;
- Collaborate with the Communication’s team to ensure The Center’s civic engagement and organizing efforts are communicated through The Center’s social media platforms;
- Produce post-campaign reports tracking work outcomes and political impact for multiple audiences;
- Work in partnership with the Volunteer Manager to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to ensure overall goals are met, with active support and input from staff;
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or Experience: Demonstrated experience leading electoral organizing campaigns, union, or community organizing experience; this position has no educational requirement.

- Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and a strong ability to manage up and sideways.
- Strong work ethic and personal commitment to excellence.
- Commitment to social, racial, economic, environmental, and LGBTQ justice. Those with lived experience as a member of a historically under-served community (i.e., low income, communities of color, LGBTQ communities, immigrant communities, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Computer/Office Equipment Skills: Must be comfortable working in PC/Windows-based environments. Must have strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English is required.
- Schedule: Ability to work nights and weekends periodically.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years of the previous campaign, union, or community organizing experience is preferred.
- Prior experience working in a non-profit setting or civic engagement, advocacy, direct service, social justice, LGBTQ, and/or HIV organizations strongly preferred.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Other Preferred Skills:
- Experience with voter files, either Voter Activation Network (VAN) or Political Data Inc. (PDI)
- Experience creating social media posts with Canva
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- Compensation: The hourly rate range for this position is $23.50 to $25.00/hr. and is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position.
