Position Overview
This position is responsible for specialized professional and technical work assisting the Director in managing the Risk Management insurance, worker’s compensation and claims functions for the University. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director. The employee is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in performing assigned responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Computer proficiency, including prior experience working in claims management or Risk Information Management System.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Strong organizational and project management skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Job Duties
Leads the investigation for both automobile and liability claims, coordinates with insurance carriers as appropriate. Recommends resolution and completes negotiation of same within authority granted by Director. Pursues subrogation opportunities when applicable. Handles all financial transactions through resolution of claim.
Reports, investigates and administers worker’s compensation claims, coordinating activities with injured employees, adjusters, medical providers and various internal stakeholders. Consults on absence leaves and light duty restrictions as appropriate. Creates and maintains claim files through closure. Maintains claim records in all databases.
Provides initial reporting of property claims, validates covered expenditures and works interdepartmentally to submit expenses, seek insurer reimbursements and distribute proceeds to impacted departments.
Responsible for procurement and administration of all property and casualty insurance contracts and assists with the student health insurance plans. Collects, validates and submits underwriting information, interfacing with brokers to receive and validate policy terms and conditions, communicating changes for approvals. Develops insurance specifications as needed. Maintains insurance policies and amendments, ensuring document accuracy and compliance with State Office of Risk Management requirements.
Prepares and maintains documentation of both premium and claim costs with allocations where required, including reconciling financial transactions. Prepares insurance premium forecasts for University departmental budgets and insurance accounts.
Provides risk management technical support, including risk identification, exposure assessments, mitigation and financing techniques. Reviews and consults on insurance indemnification provisions in insurance contracts as requested. Prepares evidence of self-insurance as needed.
Provides education and training on risk management and insurance topics, including interpreting policy contracts and department policies and procedures.
Assists with and or leads special projects for the Insurance and Claims section, including developing and maintaining written procedures and forms.
