Location: Remote
Reports to: M4BL Field Manager
Salary: $70,000 – $85,000 with full health benefits for employee and dependents, employer-funded retirement plan, remote work stipend, and 28 days of vacation
Movement for Black Lives
The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) formed in December of 2014 and was created as a space for Black organizations across the country to debate and discuss the current political conditions, develop shared assessments of what political interventions were necessary to achieve key policy, cultural and political wins, and convene organizational leadership to debate and co-create a shared movement-wide strategy. M4BL is an ecosystem of more than 150 Black-led organizations representing thousands of Black people from across the country that have come together with renewed energy, strategy, and purpose to articulate a common vision and agenda. Our ecosystem is united by core values and politics that seek to build an anti-capitalist, abolitionist, and Black queer feminist future.
The vision of the Abolishing Patriarchal Violence (APV) Table of M4BL is to uplift and affirm the lives of Black women and girls, gender expansive folx, and all Black people. The goals of the table are to:
- Reduce patriarchal violence in Black communities by 2%-5% by focusing on political education, interventions, convenings, experiments, and narrative power
- Create a dedicated workspace within M4BL for Black queer feminist organizing, campaigns, and strategy development that make clear M4BL’s commitment to Black feminisms as foundational to Black liberation
- Experiment and scale projects that abolish patriarchal violence projects across country
- Strengthen the feminist leadership of Black trans, gender non-conforming, and non-binary leaders and increase the number of Black queer feminist organizations in M4BL
Position Summary
The APV Organizer will work to recruit and onboard new members, engage current membership, and help to implement the work of the APV table, including but not limited to organizing initiatives, monthly meetings, and relationship building. This position will be supervised by the Field Manager in deep partnership and collaboration with member leadership of the table. The position may require travel and work on occasional weekends and evenings, as determined.
Essential Areas of Work
- Work to increase the number of organizations on the Organizing Table and activate deeper participation from those currently on the Table
- Implement strategies that center relationship-building to move and maintain all members to be actively engaged
- Implementation of shared work that is developed by the APV Table
- Organize, manage, and archive all necessary APV materials, notes, data, and plans
- Lead logistics for all convenings and trainings
- Actively be paying attention to politically important moments and supporting local partners in making interventions as needed
- Schedule calls and take meeting notes as needed
- Manage the budget of the APV table, including expenses, reimbursements, and stipends
- Administrative oversight for the APV table, including file management and documentation and close coordination and communication with M4BL administration and program leaders
- Join M4BL field team and help connect APV’s work to the rest of M4BL Ecosystem

Key Qualifications
- Established, strong commitment to and knowledge of the values and principles of black liberation and black feminism
- Have at least 3 years experience as an organizer and/or program coordinator
- Previous experience advocating, organizing, and base-building with Black communities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to design agendas, facilitate meetings with stakeholders, follow-up, and complete tasks.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment where the team has fun, works hard and where people have a commitment to grow, build, and learn
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and employs a strong work ethic
- Self-motivated, resourceful, creative, and able to work well both independently and collaboratively is a must
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends
- Familiarity with Google suite, Zoom, and other planning tools
