WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, the Assistant Controller is an integral member of the Tennis Canada Finance Team. This is a fast-paced and very hands-on role that will be responsible for budgeting/ forecasting and also supporting and coordinating the day-to-day accounting function of the organization. The Assistant Controller will assist with the full accounting cycle for multiple ledgers, ensuring application of sound accounting principles/practices. The Assistant Controller will also play a key role with some special projects, notably the successful implementation of an ERP/Accounting system within the organization.  The Assistant Controller is located in the Toronto office with Finance staff in both Toronto and Montreal.  Some travel to the Montreal office will be required.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and coordinates financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting for the business. Monitors monthly processes against targets and works with business leads to ensure accountability and prepare monthly reports for budget and forecast variance analysis
  • Plays a key role to support and coordinate the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable
  • Conducts monthly reviews of all balance sheet reconciliations with respect to scheduling, grants, and restricted funds
  • Coordinates and prepares all financial statements for the annual audit and other special audits
  • Reviews and ensures accounts receivable and payable subledgers are fully reconciled
  • Prepares, distributes, and advises on the monthly reports for department managers
  • Approves month end bank reconciliations
  • Prepares and reviews reporting documents for government reporting such as Sports Canada and other special reports
  • Prepares annual taxes and monthly HST/GST/QST filings
  • Plays a lead role with the implementation of new ERP/Accounting and Procurement systems at Tennis Canada
  • Collaborates with HR to build and review payroll processes
  • Collaborates with members of the Finance Team to develop accounting policies, procedures, and controls and ensure their compliance
  • Conducts payroll data analysis for payroll processes
  • Researches and proposes accounting treatment for complex transactions, where required
  • Assists with special projects, as assigned

 

WHO YOU ARE?

  • CPA Designation;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, with two years in an auditing firm preferred. Applications will also be considered from those with relevant experience in a professional services firm, events, not-for-profit and/or sports and entertainment industries
  • Experience related to budgeting and forecasting responsibilities
  • Supervision or team lead experience preferred
  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel and strong database skills
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical agility
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet tight deadlines
  • Self-motivated, results driven, prefers to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Proven prioritization, time management, and project management skills;
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP is an asset;
  • Ability to converse in basic French. The candidate is not required to be Bilingual however it is considered an asset.
