$68k – $72k per year, depending on experience, plus benefits and bonus potential
ABOUT VERS
Opening in spring 2022, VERS will be a new kind of gay bar, serving craft cocktails, elevated bar snacks, and unique entertainment in a beautifully designed space in the gayborhood of Hell’s Kitchen. We’re vers from top to bottom: from food to drink, stage to scene, glance to dance, we switch it up seven days a week. Unwind or turn it up — either way, come be yourself.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
You’re a spectacular, team-oriented kitchen manager/sous chef that is eager to lead a team, make the most delicious food, and be part of a brand new type of LGBTQ+ establishment in Hell’s Kitchen.
You’re comfortable in a startup-type environment, like to wear many hats, employ business savvy, have a history building a team that delivers delicious, perfectly cooked food that customers crave and keep coming back for time and time again.
You are eager to break the mold of a typical restaurant/bar working environment, offering sane work schedules, a level-head, and an appreciation and respect for employees and customers alike.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Staff Management:
Demonstrate effective communication, positive leadership, even temperament, diplomacy, and stability; we have a strict no-asshole policy.
Support staff whenever and however necessary, morning, noon, and night.
Develop and empower staff, mentor staff and help them to identify growth potential within the organization
Create sane working schedules; break the mold of typical restaurant/bar working environments.
Conduct regular team meetings and 1:1 check-ins
Support and train the kitchen staff to meet and exceed goals while staying under budget.
Manage the team in accordance with all company policies, procedures, and standards and local, state, and federal law as applicable
Food Service:
Uphold the highest standards of hospitality and service in a busy, bustling bar environment
Manage the kitchen inventory and ensure supplies are fresh and of high quality
Ensure proper food temperatures when cooking and proper storage afterward
Maintain a positive attitude to all customers; respond to customers comments and criticism in a constructive, even-headed manner.
Properly measure kitchen ingredients and food portions
Ensure kitchen staff adhere to set standards, procedures, department rules and sanitation requirements
Must have ability to use kitchen knives and equipment such as grills, ovens, fryers and warmers in food preparation
Facility Maintenance:
Keeping the workstation and kitchen equipment clean, organized and sanitized
Setting regular cleaning standards for the kitchen and verifying that staff is maintaining sanitation levels
Ensure a safe and secure working environment for all team members and customers
Take immediate action to resolve problems that are encountered on premises.
Physically tour and visually inspect venue on a daily basis, monitor venue condition, cleanliness, and quality of product and service
Administrative / Financials:
Maintain labor efficiency ratios to ensure best food service and cost effectiveness
Manage operations efficiently and effectively within the restaurant’s fiscal and operational guidelines
Comply with local, state and federal health department standards and comply with occupancy limits
Meet and/or exceed financial obligations and profitability by tracking kitchen finances to identify areas of potential waste
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
Minimum of 3 years of applicable restaurant and/or hospitality experience in NYC
Demonstrable track record of consistently preparing, cooking, and serving unbelievable delicious, perfectly cooked food.
Previous experience managing a team of 4+ kitchen staff
2+ years inventory management experience, including working with local NYC purveyors and reps
Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits, including New York State Health Protection Card
Leadership skills to motivate and develop staff and to ensure accomplishment of goals
Capable of setting priorities, planning, organizing, delegating, and controlling processes
Flexibility and openness to change course according to the needs of the business
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Must be able to lift and carry 40-lb boxes
Appliance maintenance coordination experience, including dishwashers, refrigerators and ice machines
