Full-Time Development Services Director
Job Description
Under the general direction of the City Administrator, the Director initiates, develops, directs, and supervises the implementation of all matters related to planning, economic development, building inspection, and code enforcement as defined in the comprehensive plan, state regulations, and the City Municipal Codes.
Reports of planning and economic development recommendations and findings are made to the Economic Development Board (EDB), Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Mayor, and Common Council for actions leading to implementation. The employee serves as staff to the Plan Commission and Economic Development Board. Oversees and helps to coordinate building inspection services to assure code compliance to provide safe and sanitary buildings. Assures code enforcement inspections are properly handled to protect and uphold the public peace and good order.
The Development Services Director works closely with the local business community, local utilities, EDB, MACCI, Main Street Marshfield, Business Improvement District (BID), CDA, and Marshfield Business Roundtable in a continued effort to attract new business and development to the City utilizing new and existing economic development programs. The Director is responsible for the preparation and oversight of grant proposals to appropriate federal, state, or private agencies. The Director is primarily responsible for the progressive development of the commercial, industrial, and residential areas of the City thereby ensuring the planned, orderly development of the City. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, customer service mentality, creativity, and problem-solving ability utilized for both internal and external customers.
