Job Description

Are you a passionate leader interested in equipping and empowering justice-involved youth to contribute to the juvenile justice reform movement in Multnomah County? Do you have the vision to lead a team that is reimagining juvenile probation in Multnomah County?

This exciting opportunity will collaboratively lead the creation of a Youth Justice Advisory Board which will provide youth with current or past experience with the juvenile justice system the opportunity to strengthen their leadership and advocacy skills, and inform the juvenile justice system leaders in Multnomah County.

The Reform Coordinator (Program Specialist Senior) will advise our division leadership on how to integrate youth into program and policy decision making and how to integrate youth voice and participation into our collaborative reform efforts.

In addition to developing youth leaders, the Reform Coordinator will provide facilitative leadership and project management to our Transforming Juvenile Probation efforts in partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and our local partners. The Reform Coordinator will also advise our Juvenile Division leadership on how to adapt our programs, practices, and policies to address racial inequities and align with national best practices in juvenile probation.

Finally, the Reform Coordinator will collaborate with four culturally specific community organizations to meet the core needs of youth and families to prevent them from entering the juvenile justice system through the Community Healing Initiative Prevention Program.

Primary responsibilities include:

 Serve as the lead staff to the Youth Justice Advisory Board

Recruit youth with experience in the juvenile justice system to join the Youth Justice Advisory Board and ensure participation of members

Develop leadership among members and coach them on developing a long term direction and strategic plan

Facilitate/lead discussions or agenda topics and draft policies for board operations

Maintain communications and provide policy guidance to youth members

Serve as a subject matter expert in positive youth development and developing youth leaders

Coordinate Transforming Juvenile Probation Efforts

Provide strategic direction to workgroups involving diverse stakeholders to collaboratively lead reform efforts

Develop action plans, assessments, written agreements, and reports based on data and best practices

Serve as a champion and subject matter expert regarding juvenile justice reform

Manage the Community Healing Initiative Prevention Program procurements, contracts, reporting, and program evaluation

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Ability to promote a culture of respect, inclusiveness, and appreciation of diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and values

Knowledge of cultures, customs, and social experiences of communities experiencing marginalization and barriers to opportunity

Ability to successfully complete duties and assignments that are complex, difficult, and varied

Ability to collaborate, build relationships and lead a team to achieve positive work outcomes

Ability to build effective partnerships with internal and external colleagues who have distinct charters, missions, and goals

Ability to consider approaches that go beyond individual programs into system and policy level considerations
