Full-Time Manager, Total Rewards

Job Description

The Manager of Total Rewards is responsible for working with internal customers to develop, track, and support Unitil initiatives in an effort to achieve its strategic goals. The role will manage quality service offerings to internal customers by designing, developing, analyzing, implementing and administering benefit plans for all employees, retirees, and dependents consistent with company goals, budgetary constraints, plan documents, policies, prior practice, established procedures, union contracts and state and federal regulations. This role will also be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and occasionally running the Company’s weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payrolls.

Benefits Management:

  • Manage development, competitiveness, effectiveness and compliance of Total Rewards initiates to leverage Company resources while striving to continue Unitil’s goal of being an Employer of Choice.
  • Manage all aspects of employee benefit plans and programs.
  • Design, develop, analyze, recommend and implement new or improved employee benefit plans, programs and/or practices.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by maintaining Plan Documents and Summary Plan Descriptions, completing 5500 forms and other filings, and creating and distributing Summary Annual Reports, Benefits Statements and other required communications.
  • Ensure that benefits programs are administered in accordance with their plan provisions and existing federal regulations.
  • Develop and manage the workload and skill set of the Benefits Analyst.

Payroll Management:

  • Manage the payroll processing function to ensure the timely and accurate preparation and reconciliation of all weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly payrolls for all companies and employees through the processing of time entries, and entering and verifying pay, taxes and deductions from pay.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate communication of payroll related information to internal departments, third party vendors and regulatory agencies through the transmittal of files and reports via paper, fax and electronic media.
  • Oversee the timely balancing of all general ledger accounts impacted by payroll and benefits. Ensure the timely and accurate processing of Unitil Service Corp. monthly time billing. Run all payrolls for redundancy of payroll employees.
  • Develop and manage the workload and skill sets of the Payroll Processor and Payroll Analyst.

Audit Management:

  • Work with auditors in annual examinations of benefits plans and payroll processes. Assist Director of Human Resources with compliance audits through Deloitte for all areas of benefits and organizational compliance. Audits will be conducted by Caron & Bletzer, Deloitte, and various state PUC audits, as needed.

Rate Case Management:

  • Contribute to the timely and accurate filing of rate cases as directed by assisting in the writing of testimony, preparing financial schedules and supporting analysis performed by others.

HRIS Management:

  • Act as ADP subject matter expert and support continued development of the product.
  • Write and run complex reports to extract specific data from the system as needed.
  • Utilize full HRIS product to provide service to employees and other members of the Human Resources team.

Communication Management:

  • Timely and accurate communication with individual employees and retirees regarding their benefits including benefits orientation for new employees, retirement counseling, benefits exit interviews, COBRA notices, etc.
  • Timely resolution of employee and retiree issues and complaints through communication with insurance company claims departments and other vendors.

Leadership Support:

  • Support leadership teams in the development of high performance expectations through goal setting and accountability metrics.
  • Develop management facing platforms with dashboards for tracking progress.
  • Identify cross-functional/coordinated teams that can produce timely and meaningful data points focused on efforts to improve Unitil performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA preferred.
  • CEBS or equivalent professional benefits designation preferred.
  • Experience testifying before state or federal regulatory commissions regarding company initiatives.
  • Ten or more years’ experience with accounting systems, finance concepts in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with Union benefits and pension plans.
  • Five to seven years of ADP or similar HRIS system experience required.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state laws governing payroll, benefit plans and HR administration.
  • Must possess a high degree of flexibility, efficiency and organization with strong personal computer skills.
  • Skill with developing analytics to support Company initiatives and Performance.
