Job Description

Strathmore is a nonprofit multi-disciplinary arts center outside Washington, DC with multiple venues, strong community partnerships and robust educational programming. Spotlighting world-class talent and serving as a launch pad for local artists, Strathmore presents nearly 400 accessible and affordable events and exhibitions each year in the Music Center,  Mansion, on our 16-acre campus, at AMP, and throughout the community.

POSITION SUMMARY

Position Title:  – Strathmore Children’s Chorus, Production Manager

Reports to:  Lauren Campbell, Vice President, Community  & Education / Michael Wu, SCC Artistic Director

Position Type: Part Time, Salaried – 30 hrs/week

Location:  Music Center at Strathmore

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENTS

The Production Manager supports the Artistic Director in the preparation and performance of all SCC Children’s Chorus events.  Experience in production of choral events and rehearsals, stage management and logistics is desirable. Evening and weekend hours are required.

*Note that this position is one half of a job-share with the SCC Administration Manager and is lead on all production elements. Over time, the specific division of duties may flex based on the candidates’ interests, qualifications and needs of the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to the following:

Production 40%

  • Execute all advance planning and preparation for both in-house and outside events including performances, rehearsals, parent orientation, and others.
  • Support the Artistic Director in organizing/reserving spaces for auditions, performances and rehearsals.
  • Stage manage Concert Hall performances, dress rehearsals and other events.
  • Support Artistic Director in liaising with performance partners and Strathmore Production Team (stagehands.)
  • Complete paperwork for guest artists, including artist agreements, check requests, and logistical communication.
  • Order and maintain SCC Singers Shop (spirit wear and merch) as needed.
  • Book concert recordings with videographer/photographer and distribute all digital copies sold.

Ensemble Management 30%

The Production Manager manages Concert, Tenor Bass and Touring Chorus. Concert Chorus rehearses weekly on Mondays at 5:30pm, Tenor Bass Chorus meets weekly on Mondays at 6:45pm. Touring Chorus is a subset of Concert Chorus and meets a second time per week on Thursdays at 5:30pm and has additional performances.

  • Organize parent volunteers to be present at all ensemble rehearsals to assist directors with room set-up, nametags, attendance, extra music, etc.
  • Attend some weekly rehearsals as needed for ensemble communication
  • Create Seating Charts for each SCC ensemble per semester.
  • Email weekly Rehearsal Notes to Ensemble Groups
  • Distribute binders and music, create and distribute nametags, track rehearsal attendance
  • Email student evaluations – mid-year and end of semester
  • Respond to parent or community questions by email or phone
  • Touring Chorus
    • Arrange all productions including transportation/extra fees/contracts, etc.
    • All correspondence with parents.
    • Organize Touring Chorus uniforms for performances.
    • Collect and track all Touring Chorus payments or expenses not related to yearly tuition.
    • Coordinate any travel or out-of-town performances.

General 20%

  • Receive and route daily parent and community questions to the appropriate team member for a response, or respond directly as appropriate.
  • Help with annual “Welcome SCC Picnic” and one other SCC Social per year.
  • Attend once per month (first Saturday per month) SCC All-Staff Meeting from 9–11am. Attend bi-weekly (every other Tuesday) Strathmore All-Staff Meeting from 10-11am.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

BA or equivalent certification; 2-4 years relevant work experience, methodical and detail-oriented, proven history of efficient management of multiple projects with varying timelines. Candidate must possess exceptional organizational and communication skills and proficiency contributing to a team.

Knowledge of and passion for choral music and performing arts education are preferred but not required. Proficiency with a wide range of cloud apps and Microsoft Office programs is preferred.

STATUS AND SALARY

This is a part-time, non-exempt, salaried position compensated at an annual salary of $30,000.
