Full-Time Assistant or Associate Professor of Architecture

Job Description

The R. Wayne Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) at Ball State University has a rich history in community engaged, professionally grounded, innovative, and impactful design education.  The Department of Architecture offers undergraduate and graduate programs that emphasize the education of architecture and historic preservation students through design studio; immersive and experiential learning; design computation; digital fabrications; engagement with social and environmental justice issues; and critical practice in pursuit of preparing the next generation of leaders in architecture and historic preservation.  We are committed to reaffirm the values of social equity, environmental responsibility, and environmental impact, in particular as they relate to the design of the built environment.

The Department of Architecture seeks faculty candidates for a tenured or tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor available starting August 2022.  Major responsibilities include teaching, research, and service in the area of environmental control systems and high-performance buildings as well as the capacity to teach and/or support undergraduate and graduate architectural design studios.  We seek candidates that offer innovative and creative delivery of this curricular content.  A review of our program curricula can be found at:

Major responsibility: teach in our professional undergraduate and graduate architecture programs.  Includes design studios and/or support courses in one or more areas; introductory survey courses in environmental systems; high-performance building; design studios plus certificate programs.  This includes 3-6 credit hour course load to equal 12 per each semester.

Minimum Qualifications 

Master’s degree in architecture or a a closely related field (by date of appointment) from an accredited college or university.

Minimum of one-year (two semesters) of teaching (either part-time or full-time) teaching undergraduate/graduate level gained concurrently or at any time.

Preferred Qualifications 
A PhD in architecture or mechanical engineering; professional license in architecture or engineering; evidence of excellence in teaching within an architectural curriculum; evidence of productive scholarship (research / creative work) with an active research, grant solicitation, and publication agenda gained concurrently or at any time; track record in professional practice and service; and a track record of excellence in design studio teaching.
