The Senior Manager of Alumni Relations is responsible for promoting a mutually supportive relationship and lifelong dialogue between Palo Alto University (PAU), its alumni and its constituents. The role requires the development of deep insights into who our alumni are and an understanding of their needs in order to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive engagement program that enhances loyalty and support for PAU. These include, but are not limited to, personal and professional development programs, network of alumni professionals, volunteer opportunities, events, programs, and partnerships that help advance the careers of our alumni and provide opportunities for current students and alumni.  

Specific Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a key member of the External Affairs team and as a central, accessible point of contact for alumni. 
  • Provide vision, leadership, and oversight of programs that engage alumni and friends in the life of the University, pre-enrollment to graduation and throughout their careers. 
  • Create and lead programs that provide meaningful opportunities for alumni to connect with each other, current students, and the University (e.g., distinguished alumni awards, speaker series, alumni mixers, professional conferences, career networking, mentorship). 
  • Partner with the Continuing and Professional Studies Division to curate and deliver professional development opportunities for alumni that reflects PAU’s values of inclusive excellence. 
  • Develop student-related programs that initiate engagement and sustain commitment through the lifecycle of their relationship with the institution. 
  • Oversee all communications with alumni, including email communications via an online platform, as well as website and social media communications in coordination with marketing/communications staff; contribute editorial content, alumni profiles, and story ideas. 
  • Work closely with the development team on donor cultivation and giving strategies and execution. 
  • Works closely with development and communications technology partners to ensure alumni data is up to date and accurate. 
  • Represents the University at various functions where there is a significant concentration of alumni and/or potential donors. 
  • Work with the president’s office, faculty, and other PAU community members to develop and foster mutually beneficial alumni relationships. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible management and leadership experience in alumni relations or other related industry. 
  • Experience building a network connected around a shared professional identity. 
  • Self-starter and independent worker. 
  • Ability to think strategically and execute with strong organizational, planning, and time management skills. 
  • Prior experience working in an alumni relations role is preferred. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skill and diplomacy and ability to collaborate with other individuals and teams, including the cultural humility to interact effectively with all levels of PAU employees, external contacts, students and alumni.  
  • Experience or education in the mental health field is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated skills in event planning; data management and analysis; proficient in the use of G-Suite. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the means to address issues clearly and in non-confrontational and non-polarizing ways to a range of diverse audiences. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.  
  • Demonstrated presentation and public speaking skills. 
  • Available to work using virtual tools and in-person evenings and weekends when needed.
