Full-Time Director of Grants Compliance and Regulatory Affairs

MADRE seeks a highly experienced, motivated, dynamic and organized candidate to fill the position of Director of Grants Compliance and Regulatory Affairs. Reporting to MADRE’s Senior Director of Grantmaking, the Director of Grants Compliance and Regulatory Affairs will manage MADRE’s growing portfolio of government and large institutional grants. The Director of Grants Compliance and Regulatory Affairs will monitor and ensure grant compliance at the various stages of large grant lifecycles. The individual will be responsible for supervision of a staff member and possibly interns. The individual will work to establish and diffuse grants management best practices and will be responsible for identifying and facilitating the grant management needs of MADRE staff and grassroots partners, as well as meeting programmatic and reporting needs and requirements of MADRE’s government and large institutional funders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hire and provide dedicated supervision to MADRE’s Grants Coordinator
  • Lead the management of program grants and contracts with program leaders and Finance staff and establish policies and procedures for managing all aspects of government funded grants and contracts, including startup, renewals, amendments, modifications, closeouts, data collection, data integrity, compliance, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement grants and contracts administrative plans, compliance and reporting systems to facilitate coordination with program leaders and Fiscal staff
  • Act as primary liaison between the organization and the grantors for program and compliance related issues
  • Synthesize and analyze program performance data into meaningful, concise statistical reports for funders
  • Write and supervise preparation of narrative reports for government funders
  • Oversee site visits from funders
  • Monitor and oversee grant and contract compliance
  • Participate in strategic program planning and proposal development in coordination with other program leaders
  • Oversee grant reporting. Serve as lead writer and project manage reporting processes in collaboration with finance and program teams.
  • Lead grant budget management, in partnership with finance and program teams, and ensure spending remains consistent with approved budgets and funder policies.
  • Monitor grant requirements in grant-related materials (e.g. grant award notifications, federal circulars) to advise finance and program teams of fidelity of implementation.
  • Review and monitor agreements with sub-grantees and consultants to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and reporting requirements
  • Act as liaison to auditors regarding federal grant awards
  • Build relationships and serve as a liaison with government agencies and internal departments funded by public grants
  • Provide organizational leadership on grant administration and agency rules and regulations relating to compliance issues, ensure that overall performance activities and related documentation and reporting are done in compliance with grant requirements, acquire knowledge of, and works with other staff, to assure that MADRE complies with federal auditing requirements and knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Work with management and finance to ensure appropriate internal controls are maintained for all contracts and grants management function
  • Other duties as assigned.

Core Competencies & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to women’s and LGBTIQ+ human rights and MADRE’s mission.
  • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in human rights, project or grants management or a related social science field and a minimum ten years of relevant grants management professional experience.
  • Substantial experience managing complex government grants.
  • Experience using Excel to prepare sophisticated program budgets, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Substantive knowledge of and experience with grants and project management.
  • Facility providing support, technical assistance, and guidance to colleagues and implementing partners. Comfort with managing up.
  • Ability to handle new challenges and to work independently in a largely virtual work setting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; must be very detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under tight timeframes and problem-solve.
  • Willingness to ask questions, and to receive and incorporate constructive supervisory feedback.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other impact evaluation software and comfort using new technology a plus.
  • Fluency in French, Spanish or Arabic in addition to English a plus.

Salary is $119,000.
